A bit of an improvement. OH started nibbling real food Tuesday night. Surgeon is pleased OH is eating as much as he is, even if it's only Ensure. He said many folks don't eat hardly anything for 4 to 6 weeks and three Ensure a day is fabulous. Plus he said quit the antibiotic so taste should improve soon too.
I asked the surgeon to show us what exactly he did. It was bile duct cancer and oncology reports all margins are clear. About a third of the pancreas is gone, all of the gall bladder and only a little wee bit of the stomach. Some people lose a lot of stomach and more pancreas but OH's tumour was caught early and it was small. A piece of small bowel wass resectioned to hold what's left together.
The fact that the drain is still draining is not a concern. Some people stop draining in two weeks, some take four weeks. We have learned to not listen to opinions from medical people who have not done this kind of surgery, some of them said some scary things to us and they were wrong.
Then the drain did NOT need to be replaced, as the surgeon thought it might today. Radiology squeezed us in, took a look and said some seepage was not the drain itself needing replacement but a new connection and bag on the outside needed. We waited two hours to be squeezed in and then it only took 20 minutes, 15 of which was wait time for them to be sure the new connection stayed dry and it did, yippee.
Driving was good too, we left at 6:30 am for a 9:00 appt. because a few times it has taken 2 hours to get down and then we thought OH would need a wheelchair but he managed to walk to the Doctor's office from the underground parking, where, YAY, we found a spot.
Oban got lots of attention as friends and neighbours doubled up on Oban duty, I don't know why, and he got out more than he needed. And while one good friend cut our grass after we got home OH and I both crashed.
Thanks for the good wishes, we are getting lots of them and I know they help.
What a great update

thanks for that update, sounds like hes doing even better than expected, yay!
Nice to see a good update! He is very lucky it was found early - scary stuff. That's one complicated surgery with so many organs involved. Prayers and well wishes sent.
