And, do I need to give my short-haired kitty this stuff? I am new to cats...
I have a Persian and a DSH and have never given any hairball stuff but this problem Hoover has gone through really makes me wonder the same thing. I am going to call my vet tomorrow morning.

Our Hoover is home and our Hobie is not happy.. he has not really liked him before and now he is really pissed. We keep Hoover in Sophie's large dog crate with litter box and his water... food is every 4 hours at just a teaspoon for today. Hoover is dying to come out of the crate. Hobie is hissing and howling at him. I hope we get back to our normal hissing and howling ... thanks to you all!!

so good to hear Hoover's home! geez, i sure hope your other guy gets over it quick!
i never gave my 2 girls the hairball goop, they really didnt seem to get them. but the big male tuxedo stray who adopted us, Sylvester of course, ALWAYS had a hairball problem, he was short haired. So the vet gave us this hairball stuff, it was supposed to coat them and make them move thru his system rather than sit there and get bigger. It was a goopy stuff in a tube, you;d just squeeze a bit out onto the top of his paws, and he'd groom it out of his fur. About every 3 days or so I think. It reminded me of very thick corn syrup.

I've had to use hairball goo with some of my short-hairs but not with others...depends on their individual metabolisms, I guess. They've all been good groomers so it doesn't seem to have been that.

You usually get a "heads up" to the problem because they'll vomit hairballs...then you know you have something to prevent. We never had an impaction...Hoover's situation was more complicated...but that can occur with just hair sometimes.

So glad to hear Hoover is home. If Hoover's allowed some freedom, why not crate Hobie from time to time and allow Hoover out. Good thoughts for the recovery!!!

So glad to hear Hoover is home and on his way to healing completely.

I'm not surprised about your other cat being upset. Happened every time one or the other of ours had to have surgery and/or extended time at the vet. Hoover being in the crate is a great idea, they can see and smell each other but no damage can be done. It took ours a couple of day and then things were back to normal.

    Sending more healing prayers.

I am glad Hoover is home! Cats are very sensitive when one comes home from the vet, using a crate for recovery and until things calm down is a great idea.
