My husband loves his Silverado. He had a used one which 2 years ago was totaled in an accident and he then got a new one . I'll see if he will answer your questions for you.
I'm interested in getting one in the future since I believe I would benefit a lot from it since I am an avid outdoorsman, I will be hunting, etc. I've never had a car before (still in college so it will be a while until I get one) and nobody in my extended family has owned a truck before (they're all about Civics and Camrys since they're fuel efficient). So far I've been looking into the F150, Silverado, GMC and Tundra. With my research for quite a few months, I've narrowed it down to the Silverado and Tundra. What I've read/know is that the Tundra has given the title as 'most reliable' truck there is. However, the MPG really is turning me off and the price is a bit more compared to its competitors. The Silverado is a pretty good car as well, better MPG than the Tundra, however I keep on hearing after 40-60,000 miles, it starts rattling.
But these are some of my questions for those who have trucks:
- What kind of truck do you own?
- What kind of add-ons do you have on it? (Off road package, Crew Cab, etc.)
- What's your opinion on it?
- Were you able to haggle down the price quite a bit?
- Is it reliable?
- Is it a 'new vehicle person' friendly kind of vehicle?
So far that's all I have, but I'd like to have some peoples input on this matter! Thanks!

My DH also has a Silverado, he has had 3 or 4 in 15 or so years actually. Apparently he really likes them, lol!

Thanks, I appreciate it!
Thanks for the reply! Is there any negative reason why he had so many within those years (if they broke down, etc.)? I've read that 2006 (260,000+ miles) Tundras are still working perfectly and wanted to know if any Silverados are like that as well.
We used to have an F150 crew cab. The only "add ons" we had on it were after market - rhino lined bed (a definite must!), a lift kit, and what i like to a call a deer killer (i think its actually called a brush guard). It was my fiancés truck and he got a good deal buying off the lease from a relative. I believe it was an '08 and it held its value relatively well. He traded it in for a BMW and never looked back. It was fun but the gas mileage was a killer on it. I enjoyed driving it but it definitely takes some getting used to driving and parking it if you're not used to driving bigger SUVs or trucks.
I have always had a pick up. We now have a Ford F-150 4x4, extended cab with a 5&1/2 ft bed. Personally I don't like the 4 door as those usually have a short bed and you can't haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood( which is important to us!). DW drives it with no trouble but she says she takes extra care because of the length. She drives a Ford Escape. We bought is used from a dealer. It was only a year old and had 12,000 miles on it. We got a great deal but my Silverado was paid for for several years prior. Good luck in your search.

We have a 2014 GMC Sierra All Terrain. It's a bad a** truck. It's big and tough looking and can do ANYTHING. It has all of the options of the Denali except for the foll down rear window and lane warnings. It has a touch screen with apps, heated seats and steering wheel, navigation, leather, tons of USB ports and regular electrical outlets. We have the crew cab edition with the center console. The seats fold up so there is a TON of room in the back for both dogs or if we have passengers. There's more room in there than in my SUV. It replaced a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it is a fantastic truck.

Lots of Silverado fans here. The OH had one but is a Ford man, on his 4th F150. Even when he was still hunting he never had a 4x4. Most of his hunting since we got married was waterfowl out west and didn't really need 4x4 there. Mostly what he needs is clearance, which the Ford had over the Chev. Now the road into the trapline is so torn up by ATVs even a 4x4 can't get in. We've had very good luck with all the trucks leading the OH to moan when I don't buy one, he says they are much better for the money than any car.
I've done the price negotiations on the last several vehicles for both of us. I have a subscription to Car Cost Canada. I get the dealer price for all options, then I find out who has trucks, preferably lots left at end of model year, send the dealer a buy offer by email or fax. As per suggestions at CCC I do mark up for commission but still negotiate a lower price but this works best for a popular model at year end. And it does not remove the need to check the trucks out in person but that's the fun part. Have fun.
We are in the process of upgrading our smaller Ford Ranger to a F150. Personally, we are bigger supporters of Ford, rather than Chevy. Jake has had his ranger for 10 years, and it is nearly 20 years old. Only minor issues with it, and we use it constantly for hunting, hauling, pulling the boat, etc.
