    Repairing an outdoor fireplace

I know we have some handy members out there, so I thought I would throw this out there.

As many of you know we are preparing to sell our home next spring. New siding goes in this week (Yay! No more wood peckers!!), but we have one more big project that we are planning on doing ourselves. In our back yard we have a concrete patio, with retaining walls all around, with built in flower beds and a built in fireplace. The fireplace has started to crumble on one side, so we need to repair the retaining wall to have it be functional again. We are hoping to do this ourselves, not only to save money, but time as well. Our contractor has his hands full with the siding, along with fixing our chimney. We want to get this done before winter sets in.

So, my question is, has anyone done anything similar? Is it something we are going to be ok with doing ourselves or should we get a professional to do it? From the looks of it, all we need to do is take out the old bricks and put in new.

That's a project. If it looks like it's going to be too costly/work intensive, how about changing it into a planter. Remove upper crumbly bricks leaving a low wall.

Can you post some pics??? I'm having a hard time picturing what you are dealing with. I've done brick laying and other masonary work, and may be able to help.

I will once the rain clears up! We are having torrential downpours as of right now...

I wish we had some rain, been in the 90's with the most miserable humidity I can ever remember. I was cutting the molding for the bathroom earlier, was outside for maybe 3 minutes make a couple cuts, and was covered in sweat when I came in. Unreal.
