    Very Bad Storms Last Night

Late afternoon Chicago area got hit with some big storms. A community event closed early but the storm came in so fast that it took down one of their big tents killing one and seriously injuring several others. Around 8 pm another round came through hitting us. Tons of rain, some hail and strong winds. I can manage that but it was the sirens going off that had me on edge. A town about 10 miles from us had what they think was a tornado, ripping part of the roof of the high school and doing other damage. Thankfully, nobody hurt. Then again around 10:30 another round came through. Those kind of storms get to me ever since I went through a hurricane in Savannah.

Today is sunny and much cooler.

We had bad storms come in as well. Our weren't until about 9:30 last night. But it was pretty bad. It was windy all day though. the temps dropped from 90's to 60s in couple hours.

    Hemi slept through it.

Big temp drop here too. Mardi slept through it all but Archie got a little antsy when the sirens were going off.

Glad you all are ok. I guess we will see just what the damage was on the TV news tonight, as we eat our supper. I drove about an hour south this morning and found lots of places where people had cleared fallen trees and big branches off the road.

Glad you guys got through it ok. All it's been here is hot, and off the hook humid. Field training for Bruce and I was cancelled for the third week in a row. It's been a miserable summer, and it's not looking to change any time soon. I'm really looking forward to our Colorado trip in a couple weeks.

I might be a bit more than an hour North of you but it is not much better here. Getting Maxx outside for anything other than a quick potty trip or to swim is not possible. He gets all excited when I ask if he wants to go for a walk, as soon as I open the door he looks at me like I am nuts and heads right back inside. I am not looking forward to Winter but a little relief would be nice!

Fran - I am glad you got through the storms safely!

Turned out it was an EF1 tornado and did more damage than originally thought. A Mom and Pop Pizza place was completely destroyed.

apparently one touched down north of here yesterday, in the 1st round around 6pm, tiviotdale area, EF2. the second round looked scary on radar but apparently wasnt as bad as the 1st. I was worried about Scout, he was here with his trainer, and i was down in Savannah. nothing much around here, a few small branches, and leaves.

Glad all are OK. Sounds like you need a safe, reinforced room for your house to go to when Mother Nature comes roaring.
