I did not realize that you were already on Apple. You might end up saving time, frustration and money by springing for Apple store refurbished (and guaranteed) 11 inch Macbook Air at $729. You could more easily back up files on icloud, etc. You would be less vulnerable to viruses. I believe you have up to a year from date of purchase to extend the Apple Care, so you could postpone that insurance for months. That is what I would do in your situation., unless I needed a Windows laptop for work.

You can still use cloud storage to go between windows and apple devices. There are many drives for free out there, including google drive and one drive.

Of course. With the Iphone there is already icloud storage, a free 5 G. For $0.99 a mo, one can go up to 50G as of this month. It is just seamless across all Apple devices. There are far fewer problems with viruses on Apple, but one still needs to exercise care. I do not need to worry as much about paying for Geek Squad fixes; there is no real need.

It just depends on one's needs, expertise, budget, and wants. The ASUS transformer is an inexpensive and small version of the Surface, but not as sturdy as the Macbook or even ipad. The ASUS includes a lot of Microsoft platform software for the price. The 300 seems sturdier than our old T100.

I love my Mac Pro 13" laptop, I have had it for 5 years and never have issues with it. Prior to that I went through several Windows based lap tops with expensive trips to Geek squad. Maybe I just had bad luck, but it seemed despite always updating my virus protection I kept having problems. I would keep saving for an Apple.

a mac laptop, even refurbished, is way out of my budget. $600 is top top top amount I can spend and would rather stay lower (400-500). even the refurbished ones are $1000+ (I just checked again to confirm).

it's not going to get a crazy amount of heavy duty use, my computer is right in the living room and I am on it all the time. other than stuff like internet usage the only thing i'll do with it is some minor photo editing to fix up my photos. I don't even think I would be installing adobe photoshop or anything that sophisticated. I would like a good amount of memory I don't game. I may not even use it daily. I have apple TV so don't even need it for netflix.

If you don't need to "transport" a laptop around, I'd get a Mac Mini (which is the other desktop Apple makes besides the iMac). You hook up a monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers if you wish (there are already some built in) and you have a computer. We purchased one for $499 from Best Buy a few months ago after our 10yr old desktop died on us (of course the weekend I had a paper due...grrrr).

If you do need/want the laptop though, then ignore everything I just said. If you can hold off for another 2 months or so, then you may have some luck with Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. If you're waiting for those sales, do it a week or so before. Usually the prices drop before the sales so they can bump them back up and mark them down for the "awesome deal you won't find anywhere else"

Just don't get a HP. They are a total nightmare.

I'm looking for a new laptop as well. I've been looking at Dell and Lenovo. My current one is a Toshiba and it's been excellent but sadly Toshiba is getting out of the laptop business.
