Yes. I am horrified. My Parisian little sister is o.k. but what is this world coming to?

This is terrifying. I can't believe how sick people are. It's absolutely disgusting

The sad thing is our so called leadership doesn't have the balls to do what needs to be done. Our military is more than capable of reducing ISIS and Al Queda to smoking rubble. The military has been hamstrung at every turn by "rules of engagement". We have to abide by ridiculous rules, when our enemy plays by no rules and will exploit any weakness. Our enemy has no problems killing innocent men, women, and children. The will strap a suicide vest on a woman or a child and blow themselves up to kill the infidels. They don't want peace, they don't want to negotiate. They want Israel gone, and the west gone. They will kill and maim in the name of their religion.
I can only say don't be surprised when this happens here in America. It's only a matter of time to when a bunch of suicide bombers attack a major event in the US, killing as many as they can, then blowing themselves up to take out even more. They do this in there name of their God. Human life means nothing to them.
Until our leadership is committed to erradicating this threat, these events will continue to happen.

I agree. Not thrilled about it. W.T. Sherman said "war is hell", and that was when two armies from essentially the same civilized culture were trying to kill each other. In this circumstance we have an ideology that was brutal and savage by 7th century standards.
Constitutionally, I'd like to see a Declaration of War. ISIS is a State. We could not declare war in an asymmetrical struggle against individuals and small groups. But they have declared themselves a nation-state and we should show them the courtesy of declaring ourselves their implacable enemy. Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war. No quarter. Once having defined our enemy, we encourage Muslim nations and groups to determine with whom they wish to align. This is not about religion. This is about war.
Doubtless ISIS has agents here looking to do to Americans what they did to Parisians. Once we've declared war, we can charge these vermin with treason and/or with espionage and legitimately (i.e., Constitutionally) and without remorse, kill them. I would prefer hanging and I would like video of the bodies, swaying gently too and fro on the gibbet, to be put up social media for the little-wanna-be-jihadis in their mothers' basements to eyeball. It is being said that ISIS has made killing Christians, Jews and other Muslims look sexy for young blood-thirsty, hate-filled westerners. Fine. Let's expand their viewing choices.
Sadly, I don't think we'll reach that point until we see our children and grandchildren wounded, bleeding, and dying in our streets.
The problem is vastly more complex than some bad guys doing really, really bad stuff.
For one thing the coalition of the willing in 2003, (mis)led by the US, has to look in the mirror and accept some responsibility for allowing a leadership vacuum to occur and to continue existing in Iraq. That indirectly caused what's happening.
For another, much of the unrest in Syria was and is in some part the result of a lengthy drought there which ruined many farmers' and rural peoples' lives, compelling them to move to the cities looking for relief, where they joined the hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing Iraq. The Syrian government was partly asleep, partly overwhelmed, partly brutal. Other countries did not offer enough aid to help Syria manage the crisis.
For a third, my understanding is that most if not all of the Paris attackers were European, NOT Syrian refugees. I could be wrong on this.
The regional powers - Turkey, the Kurds, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and others - either implicitly support the IS or allow it to exist because doing so serves their interest.
Fighting this asymmetrical war requires asymmetrical thinking and action. Droning is like playing whack-a-mole. As for a ground war do we forget how badly the last massive ground war in the Middle East turned out? Asymmetrical thinking and action should include military action. Yet there's more that can be done.
Bashar al-Assad probably should leave power but who or what replaces him? That's a real problem. Action should also include Muslim, Arab, Middle Eastern staffing in our intelligence apparatus; leaning hard on countries, groups, and individuals who fund and arm the IS; working with our own people to minimize (preferably eliminate) their radicalization; humanitarian aid to help the refugees return to a stable homeland or not be compelled to leave to begin with. There are undoubtedly more actions, ones I'm not thinking of.
I sure don't have all the answers. I do believe two things.
Simply blowing up the bad guys won't work. And I wont live in fear or succumb to nationalism and xenophobia.
