    Update On Grandson

Yesterday, yes on Thanksgiving, GS had his turning blue ceremony at Ft. Benning. His dad, grandmom and siblings flew down. He was allowed off base to have dinner or the entire family could eat in the mess hall. They opted for dinner out. Time was short but they did get a nice visit. Today was graduation from AIT school. Ceremony was at 10, not long, and all the graduates had to bring their packed duffle bags. There was time for a quick hug and he was off on a bus to the airport. Off to Fort Bliss, TX. He sent me a message from a layover in Austin, TX, with some pictures. Geez, he looks like an adult!

It's funny how history repeats itself. DH was station at Ft. Bliss for 2 years. He's kinda closed mouth about what training he is going to take but Ft. Bliss was were he wanted to go. His adventures have really started.

I'm really bummed that I could not go to the graduation. Had planned the hip surgery so that I could but it did not work out. Ortho though I might be able to go but said that the long sitting times and pressurized airplane cabin were not a good mix for preventing blood clots.

We are so proud of him. He had never really been away from home so this was a big move. Was a little rough at first but he settled in and seems to be anxious to get on with his life.

He sounds like an awesome g-son you could be really proud of. Bitter sweet watching little ones grown up and spread their wings.

Another congratulations to your grandson. I know you had been looking forward to attending his ceremony and I'm sure he had you in his heart that morning. It's neat how he'll be at the same station as your DH. Recalling that he wanted your DH to take him wherever he needed to go that first day, they really will share a bond that the rest of you might never fully appreciate. Good for your grandson!

Family did video the ceremony and also bought the video the Army photographer made. I haven't see it yet.

Was going to try to drive for the first time yesterday but just felt down, bummed out. He sent me a PM on facebook attaching photos. The rest of the grans are flying back today. Going to spread my wings and venture into the outside world today. Don't think there will be a problem other than getting in and out of the car, LOL.

Thank you all so much for the well wishes. I'll pass them along.
