    Vintage Shorebird Decoy Drawing

    Aye Mates,

Currently working on a drawing of a vintage yellowlegs shorebird gunning decoy inspired by Elijah Burr 1839 - 1909. The drawing is in colored pencil on tan toned acid free archival quality drawing paper. Burr lived, carved, and gunned for shorebirds in Hingham, MA and is among me favorite historical makers of decoys. Surely Burr and his contemporaries saw the "Golden Era of Fowling".

Elijah Burr inspired yellowlegs gunning decoy rendering.

    Bamps, Janedoe, and Barry,
Thank ye for ye kind words. I love old decoys as subject matter for me renderings as they transport me back in time and serve as a connection to the gunners of yesteryear. As well, I find the form of most water birds to be pleasing to the eye and calming to the soul.

That's really good! Spending time in the Outer Banks, we often see carvings of waterfowl but I think most of them have no real history, just stuff to attract vacationers. I like the history behind your artwork.

You have quite an eye and hand. Love the drawing.

There is just something captivating about handmade objects from yesteryear.

    Aye Mate,
Thanks much. I too enjoy the historical aspect of waterfowing.
