    Vintage eider gunning decoy rendering

    Aye Mates,

Sharing a glimpse o' me latest rendering of a decoy from the "golden era of fowling". T'is a common eider drake influenced by the carvings of Gus Wilson 1864 - 1950. The decoy work of Wilson is amongst me shortlist of favorite New England carvers of yesteryear and features the "inletted head" design for whicn Wilson and other Maine carvers are noted.

This rendering was done in mixed media (artist's charcoal and pencils) on tan toned, acid free, archival quality drawing paper.

Gus Wilson influenced common eider gunning decoy rendering by Irishwhistler.

Still needs some fine detailing work.

Another great one! Keep up the good work.

Warning: They are so lifelike, TRAD may try to get at them.

    PopTop,
TRAD showed an keen love for birds and decoys from early on. The common loon confidence decoy in winter plumage he is examining in this photo was later broken at the neck / body joint by a rambunctious wee TRAD knocking a table over. I will get around to repairing it one o' these days.

Common Loon "confidence decoy" painted in oils (winter plumage phase).
