Sophie's mom and dad may be pregnant!

Hello, my hubby and I have been wanting a second yellow girl from the same mom and dad of Sophie. The breeder said to check back in January to see if anything was definitely baking. The anticipated birth is Feb or Early March, I gather. I know Sophie loves other dogs and loves her three cat friends but I feel she would like another labbie. I like the idea of having a full sister for her. Will two girls get along better than getting a brother? I feel it is really up to Sophie. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Sophie's mom

Well, I hope two girls get along good as we are planning on getting Piper a sister this spring. They will be roughly 2 1/2 years apart. I am super excited and have wanted a second since Piper was about 6 months old. Everyone said to wait so I did but it has been soooo hard. I hate being a responsible adult!

Maybe we'll get to experience puppyhood together!

I've had two girls at the same time. They were both intact, and I had no issues at all. My friends/breeders have 3 girls living in the house together, 2 Labs and a Cocker, plus their old boy. They've never had an issue that I know of, generally the bitches have lived in the house, while the boys are in the kennel runs.

Other than that one occasion, I've normally had a dog/bitch at the same time.

Just out of curiosity, why won't you consider a dog??? And please don't think I'm being judgemental in any way, or thin kyou should get a boy, I'm just curious.

Probably you are talking to Sophie's Mom but it is dead at work, so I will answer, too We are getting a girl because we plan for the third to be a boy. There is a possibility that I will still be working when our puppy is born and if I have to take her to work with me (a carpeted consignment shop) then I think a girl would potty train faster and easier.

However, if the breeder says only a boy has the right temperment than I guess we will be getting a Woodson. I really hope Rooney comes first though!

LOL, you know, you put this in the OT where usually we talk about ourselves, not the dogs. However, hope I can offer doggy congrats soon.

Glad I am not the only one who had that thought, lol!

I have had a dog and a bitch together and up to 3 dogs together at the same time but never 2 bitches together. Many do have multiple bitches without any issues. My experience has been dogs potty train and are more people oriented than bitches. That is saying a LOT when you are talking about Labradors! Reminds me of that saying "they don't call them bitches for nothing"! (No offense to anyone intended.)

Whichever sex you end up with, I am very happy for you!

We have two girls, though only one is a lab, and there have never been any issues. They both took to each other the moment they met, within minutes of meeting Lily was curled up next to Daisy. My inlaws have a male lab and a female dachshund. No issues there either and the four dogs get along great with each other. Labs are generally easy going and I bet most would do well with either sex. I would just let the breeder pick the pup that will fit in best with your family and needs.

I was confused about the "second yellow girl", too!

Two girls can get along as well as a boy and girl. But, the term "bitch fights" was coined for a reason! Most people think you are safer getting one of each or a couple of boys. There's a good chance you'll be fine with well-bred Labs though. You never know what you are going to get. You could get a carbon copy Sophie or polar opposite, so definitely don't base any of your choices or expectations on Sophie's personality. My yellow is way different in size and temperament than many of his litter mates. It's hard to believe they are related.

I too thought this was human related, lol.

As for sex, we have never had two girls together so I nothing to offer. I know of people that have had two girls of many breeds and they've been fine. Puppies!
