Family and I were exchanging emails and music came up.
My music library includes classical (leaning heavily on Mozart), a lot of that old time 60's rock and roll going into the '70s. (A brief story. I spent time cruising up and down the street in front of the high school in my friend's Chevy Nova when I should have been in class, listening to Boston's first album at 11 of 10 on the volume scale. On an 8-track.) [Does that date me or what?]
Uh, continuing. Country (ranging from Ozark Mountain Daredevils through Lyle Lovett, Willie, Johnny Cash, to Blue Rodeo and the Rankins), big band/swing (BG [Benny Goodman Live] at Carnegie Hall, Sinatra, Glenn Miller), jazz (Manhattan Transfer, George Winston, Oscar Peterson, Joe Sample, David Sanborn). Some Andean flute music for when I'm contemplative. Don't know much about contemporary music though am intrigued by Adele, and by Lady Gaga of all people.
Right now I'm listening to Benny Goodman Live at Carnegie Hall. A magical, never happened before never happened again gathering of talent.
Often though, quiet is good. I don't at all mind listening to the hard drive whir, the ceiling fan hum, birds chirping.
What do you enjoy listening to?

I love most music. I like Benny Goodman & the big band sound. I like oldies (60's and 70's) I like older country music, Johnny Cash, Willie and Waylon, Loretta Lynn... I love Souther Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd... My main love is bluegrass. Not a huge fan of the older stuff, Bill Monroe, Stanley Brothers ( I might loose my redneck card for that one!). Groups like Rhonda Vincent, Allison Krause, The Seldom Scene, The Osborne Brothers, The Country Gentleman. They have some of the best harmonies and talent of their instruments. Southern Gospel is high on my play list too. I guess I have a wide ranging love of music.

LOL, any time you'd like to rekindle your romance with a '67 Chevy 11 two door hardtop let me know. We will have to wait till the OH is away though. Bring a flatbed trailer.
Mostly what I listen to these days is the music I put together for recreational ice skating. There is a wide range of genres. There is some classical but most is not good because the beats change, volume changes and strings don't come across well over ice in the arena. Piano is good, sax (have lots of Billy Vaughn), lots is good and we just had a Robbie Burns day with my all time favourite, Donald Where's Yur Troosers. It has the right beat.
Most of my music is from old LPs from thrift stores. I have
https://www.magix.com/ca/audio-cleaning-lab/ but the 2013.
I also use
https://musebook-metronome.en.softonic.com/
to measure the beats. We can't skate to anything slower than a 92 (every second beat so for us it's 46) or faster than 124 (62) Actually only the strongest speed skaters can push off powerfully enough to hold onto a 46 so I'm taking some of those out.
Yesterday I came home from skating pooped. WE had my all time most favourite, Alley Cat by Bent Fabric, followed by Mame, New York New York and Wheels and I skated hard to all of them without hardly knowing, becasue they are so good, and then my legs went to rubber.

I know of Bill Monroe and have heard Allison Krause, like her voice. The others, no. I'll have to to to allmusic.com to listen to some samples.
Just let me know when and I'll be by with the flatbed.
That's interesting, how to select music to skate by.

Faye and I have a standing Saturday evening date to listen to Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap on CBC. He does themed shows, the theme often listener-suggested. This week's theme is 'Be more active.'
He's appearing at a venue not far from us; it was sold out before we could get tickets. We did a little research and learned about the Rock Legends Cruise. Though neither of us are particularly interested in cruising this has given us a second though about that.

Like you I like a wide range of music. Enjoy big band music, grew up with my parents listening to it and smooth to dance to. Lately been listening to the oldies station and not going to tell you how far that goes back, LOL. We seem to switch between it and country in the car. I'm definitely not into rap or stuff that is loud just to be loud. Nothing better than cleaning house, vacuuming to some great tunes.

I am all over the place with music taste. As a kid, my mother go into her room and "bang on the piano" as she put it. She was born as the Titanic was being readied for its maiden voyage. She was slammed with my grandfather's taste of "turn of the century" (1800-1900) and it flow through to me. I arranged and used to play a song he played on the fiddle for guitar named "Whistling Rufus" until I read the lyrics and stopped. (It's was pretty racist) My mother liked songs such as "stumbling" by Zez Comfrey and things of that era certainly influenced my taste too. I have older siblings from the jitterbug days to a couple yrs older than me and all loved their music and influenced my liking as well. I remember my older brother sitting in front of our little RCA stereo record player with a 33 album of Carlos Montoya playing it over and over and over with his little classical guitar until he litterally wore it out. Platters to Dick Dale to Led Zeppelin, jazz to rock to classical to Tex mex to country any of it works for me.
My most influenced for my guitar though were Carlos Montoya, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Carlos Santana, Paco de Lucia, Pepe Romero and Wes Montgomery. How's that for all over the place. Lol

First, absolutely no Country. Country music to me is just well blech. There are a few exceptions, some Kenny Rogers, Convoy by C. W. Mcall. Those come to mind, however I wouldn't be heartbroken if I never heard them again. Country in general I could do without. Bands that I do like that do Country cross overs I don't like the cross overs either. Take Kid Rock for example. Early stuff much more rock, love it. New stuff, much more country, hate it.
Now I mention that, not to be contradictory because I find this odd that the music I mainly listen to and prefer is stringed instruments. Which Country does a lot of guitar. So I am not sure what it is about country music I do not quite like but it bugs me something fierce.
So now strings instruments, I love Harp Music, huge fan of Debora Henson-Conant. Her Classical, Scottish and blues harp music I can listen to for hours. I have been to see her in concert. I think she is fantastic. Camille and Kennerly the Harp twins are fantastic especially since they remake a lot of classics and modern music and redo it with the harp. Check them out and watch videos at Harp Twins: Official Harp Website of Camille and Kennerly and they are quite pleasing on the eye too ;-) Almost all harp music gets me and I can listen to it always.
Cello music is right up there. I find it fascinating at the versatility of it. Apocalyptica is by far one of my top favorites even back when they just did cover tunes and even more so now they do originals. The sounds they pull out of Cello's is fascinating.
Then this leads me to guitar. Guitar is my mainstay, my go to music as long as it is not country.
I like Heavy metal and hard rock of all ranges. My music collection contains ZZ top, Pink Floyd, all the centering around Metallica, Iron Maiden, but going as hard and heavy as Lamb of God and Anthrax.
However, I also listen to Sharon Isbin which is one of the finest guitarist in the world. She does classical guitar and is the head of the school of Julliard's Classical music division. An outstanding guitarist.
When I want to listen and do work then I listen to a wide range of specifically Metal Guitarists Solo Albums. So Steve Vai, George Lynch, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Angelo Batio, Joe Satriani, and the likes.
I do like classical music and folk music provided it is done on strings, guitar, harp etc.
Piano does fall in there as well just not so much. I enjoy good piano once in a while. I have been known to go to a piano bar on occasion but I do not readily listen to it as much as guitar.
Violin, not overly a fan of. Again depends on the song. I am Aware of some great ones like Lindsey Stirling. It just doesn't do it for me. I listen to it, I find it pleasing but not something I would say I need to listen to that again.
Then swinging way over to another direction. There is some Rap I listen to. But very rarely and only a few specific artists.

Bamps that's a pretty diverse library. Chet Atkins, an amazing guitarist. By Tex Mex, do you mean conjunto? Have you heard Los Lonely Boys?

Jeff, country has been an acquired taste.
I never imagined 'Highway to Hell' arranged for and played on harp. Wow.
Do you know of George Winston? He is known mostly for playing new age piano. He's also taken up jazz, R&B, and interestingly, Hawaiian slack guitar. I saw him twice at the Paramount Theatre in Austin and would see him again in a heartbeat.
---------------
I saw Jeff Healey at a very small theatre in Goderich. Earlier in his career played absolutely scorching blues on electric guitar, once playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan. When I saw him he was playing acoustic guitar, playing roundhouse jazz and early swing. Unfortunately he died only a few months after that show.

I'm a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. In a nutshell I think his studio work is average at best, however, as a live performer he kills it. I've seem him live 10 times, and LOVED every show. Jeff I'm with you regarding country music, there is a very, very small segment I like, George Straight being at the top. We've seen him live 3 times, and I really, really enjoyed those shows. I like Zac Brown, Adele, and Harry Connick Jr, who we saw live about 5 years ago. Amazing show!! I listen mostly to music from the 60's, 70's and 80's........
