    Eagle's Nest view

In case anyone has an interest in watching nesting bald eagles, there's a pair in PA with a camera trained on their nest. I think last year people were able to watch them sit on, hatch, and raise a couple of eaglets. I just found out about them today and got to watch one of them eat... something, maybe a fish or small mammal? It snowed yesterday so the next was clean and snowy when I looked at it this morning, now there is evidence of some feasting. Since there are no eggs yet, I think they're out of the nest more than they're in. It's pretty cool to see them. Can't wait to watch the eggs and that whole process!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

So cool to see. Nest is empty, snowy, but definite signs of a kill having been eaten.

Will have to check in often.

One just flew in (5:48 pm EST), stayed for a minute or two and then flew out. I don't know how to tell apart the male from the female. Looks like last year the first egg appeared on Feb 14, so I guess it could happen any day. Now he/she is back. (5:52)

Yet another reason to leave my computer on 24/7 and probably get up during the night just to look.

I have been watching this Decorah, Iowa pair for 4 years. They are in a new nest this year, and it has been equipped with high res cameras that are amazing. They have been working on the nest bowl, so eggs are due within the next month or less. As you watch them, just remember they are, tip to tail, 3 feet tall and have a 6 foot wingspan. Amazing raptors.

Happy to hear of the PA nest! Thanks for the link!

I follow Decorah too! Loving the new HD cameras.

While we wait for the northern eagles to lay their eggs, there is a nesting pair down in Georgia on the Berry College campus. They have two eggs in the nest. Pip Watch is currently underway for Egg #1. Egg #2 should pip about three days later. Here is the link: Berry College - Eagles

Looked again and there is definite change in the nest. Clear evidence of more meals eaten but no birds. It's like they're hiding from me. I'll keep checking.

I saw both of them in the nest just before lunchtime this morning. One spent a fair amount of time dismembering some little critter and last I looked, it looked like a skeleton was all that remained. I can't tell them apart. Supposedly the female is larger than the male but if one is closer to the camera than the other, then how do I know if it's just the perspective? Ahem, could you two please stand up straight and side by side on the side of the nest?

People have been watching this nest for a while, they seem to have named a mouse and a squirrel that they've seen frequenting it, Miss (or Mr) Mousie and Braveheart. The squirrel must not be too bright, wouldn't he be eagle food?
