I guess I need to bring Chopper with me when I'm speeding. I never get a break from the police when it comes to tickets.

Mocha got me out of a ticket with the Ohio State Patrol! They are tough! The state lowered the speed limit from 55 to 45 on a stretch of road I had been traveling for 40 years. Mocha was riding with his big old head and ears flapping in the breeze. I saw red & blue lights in the rearview mirror. As the Trooper walked up she asked if he was friendly I said only if your NOT going to give me a ticket. Mocha obliged me with the proper amount of licks and being too cute. She went back and ran my info and came back to the truck and told me to slow it down. She gave Mocha a few more pats and we went on our way, ticket free.

My husband and I were pulled over once on a deserted stretch of desert highway in arizona. We were on a cross-country roadtrip and had taken a side road to go on a quick leg-stretching hike. We were taking the scenic route back to the highway and he was pulled over for 'drifting over the white line'. (he wasn't, I ride with my husband all the time, he's an attentive driver and certainly was not all over the road as the trooper described).

But, we had a nice chat with the trooper who was just gushing over Thor (who was practically trying to crawl out the window to greet the mysterious stranger with kisses). He had a yellow lab at home, too. After lots of love and kisses, he mentioned that our truck fit the profile of the area drug runners (White Tundra with a lid). But none of "those folks" had friendly goofy labs, so we were obvious the upstanding citizens that he would hope us to be.

I used to travel between VA and WV a lot thankfully knock wood I have never gotten a ticket, I do try to run the speed limit though. I have had state police motion from the other lane for me to slow down, have had a state slam on his breaks on a four way him going one way me the other - never tap your breaks when you see a police car that is the first tale sign you are speeding. And I too got out of a speeding ticket going through MD on my way back to VA with the kids in the car, kids being Coleman, Tootsie and Bailey. When the officer approached my car Coleman stuck his big ole up to the window and started barking at the man. The office took my paper work back to his cruiser then had his partner bring them back to me without the ticket.

I have to say that one scared me a little as it was right after the news where cops shot a family pet they let out of the car saying it was going to attack them after pulling the car over.

Huh. I wonder if the road looked something like the image. Two or more lanes each direction, maybe a suicide lane in the middle. A road like that does not belong in a town; using only a speed limit sign (ETA: to get people to slow down) is unsafe for and unfair to drivers, pedestrians, cyclists. A better-engineered road includes visual cues to help a vehicle driver understand they are exiting a highway and entering a town. Cues can include narrower lanes and pavement, narrowing devices like movable bollards, trees, signs, and such.

I have found in my own experience that observing posted speed limits never results in a ticket but ignoring them by either omission or being inattentive trips me up every time.

Back in 2007 the Governor of Pennsylvania at the time was quoted as saying:

HARRISBURG -- Gov. Ed Rendell acknowledged that his state-police chauffeured car sometimes exceeds the speed limit, even though the administration instituted a policy three years ago ordering his drivers to abide by it except in emergencies.

"Sometimes we adhere to the speed limit, sometimes we don't," Mr. Rendell said yesterday. "On many of Pennsylvania's highways, if you adhered to the speed limit, you'd be a safety hazard."

Rendell says he still feels need for speed | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Seemed like a case of do as we say not as we do for John Doe.

If I drove the speed limit where I live, I'd be in an accident daily. Gotta stick with the flow of traffic.
