    Speeding ticket

Got nailed going 56 in a 30. It dropped right from 55 to 30 and he got me right as I crossed the sign.

Anyway, the trooper dropped it down to 44 because Luna and Comet were in the back and he was impressed with how well behaved they are.

Moral of the story, make sure your dogs are in the car if you're speeding! Might save you a ticket

Oooh bummer! I have found a sure method to avoid speeding tickets, (I got tired of the roadside chit-chats with law enforcement), it's my cruise-control and watch for signs. Good luck with it, I hear they're expensive these days.

Once I had a big, male, very stranger-averse GSD in the back seat of my Z-28 when I was driving through Oklahoma a long time ago. I was on cruise-control and I knew I wasn't speeding but I saw the trooper pull in behind me. Couple miles down the road, sure enough, the red and blue lights come on. I pulled over, and the minute the GSD saw that guy approaching the car... he went F-ing BUG-NUTS. Barking, snarling, jaws-clacking, saliva hitting the driver's side window. I cracked the window and damn, I couldn't hear a word the man was saying. I yelled "Do you want me to step out of the car?" And he yelled back NO, MA'AM!!! YOU HAVE A NICE DAY!!! and walked back to his car and drove away.

    So there is that.

MuMicks: I can see signing up Archie for a new class.

DH got caught with a camera at an intersection. He was going to work, dark out, snowing like crazy, police had advised anyone who could stay home, stay home. He has one of those jobs he has to go. Going uphill, stop light half way up, barely getting traction even with 4 wheel drive and decided that even with the light turning yellow to red, he was going through. He paid $200 for that one.

The last time that happened to me I got a Jackie Gleason wanna be type. Wrote me up for the full meal deal. Thankfully that was back in 1998, but I'm getting ready for a road trip here and am a little concerned about my lead foot in OR where the freeway speed limit is lower. Must behave... must behave....

Oh wait, they apparently raised it to 70 mph recently! I may be okay.... keep it under 80.... lol.

This is a huge fear of mine. I have a really bad lead foot (usually hit about 45-50 in a 35...let's not talk about the freeway I don't go over 80 though) and slam on the brakes when I see a cop. Someone told me though that if you see a cop and you're speeding, do NOT slam on the brakes or it's obvious you were speeding. (Obviously) take your foot off the gas and slow down slowly

    doubledip1, dogs were your co-pilots.

Bamps, agreed on using cruise. The only time I don't use it is in town or in heavy traffic.

Often when you see a cop and she is using radar or laser, it's already too late.

I like these two memes from Strong Towns.

If you need a sign to tell people to slow down you designed the street wrong

Level of Service: A (When you apply highway standards to city streets)

Used to regularly drive 15 klicks (about 9mph) over the limit on all roads all the time, sometimes even faster. No longer; I didn't need a speeding ticket to be persuaded. All it took was learning not only that my fuel mileage improved about 10%, the time saved was inconsequential. Now on an hour or longer drive on open highway, I might step it up a bit. :-)

Up here in Ontario radar detecting devices are illegal. There's a racing part of the Highway Safety Code. If you are nailed driving 50 klicks (31 mph) or more over the posted limit:

    * your licence is suspended on the spot; and
    * your vehicle is impounded for seven days.

On your first conviction you could receive any or all of:

    * A $2,000 to $10,000 fine;
    * Be jailed up to six months; and
    * Have your licence suspended up to two years.

    I like it.

My sister and I got a ticket in Michigan. We were going to a hunt test. We had four dogs in their crates and all our crap in an Explorer. When Eden started looking for her insurance and ownership she couldn't find them. She was in a real state. The nice young trouper finally said her "Look ma'am we know you would never have stolen this car. Just go in to Lapeer and pay the ticket". I still get a laugh out of it.

I was on cruise! It was a road that went from 55 to 30 for 1/2 mile in the town then back up to 55.
