Regardless of the danger I could never have indoor only cats. We've had cats our entire married life and none would have been happy only inside. Moxie is a stay at home girl, she doesn't venture much off our property, will occasionally go see the neighbors when it is really hot out but since we are in Pacific NW with a lot of drizzle and rain, she pretty much stays close to home.

Henry on the other hand, must hunt. Every day. So I am not mad at the owl or any type of creature ( say for example, a coyote) for hunting. This is why all of our animals are inside every night. I'm not mad at Henry when he brings me presents. I pat his head, fake smile and scream for someone else in my family to come clean up the mess.

My shock was that 1) it occurred in the day and 2) it occurred with a full grown cat. I really thought they were too big to be taken. Luckily now we know it can happen in the day and know to be aware of the blackbirds freaking out, plus Piper.

That is so scary and really makes me worry about the feral kitty family I take care of. I am doing all I can to make these guys safe and really hope I am able to find them homes in the near future. I am so attached to these sweet babies and they are really coming around.

I am very glad Moxie is ok!

I think as suburbia has further expanded and cut down on predator's territory, it forces them to adapt and maybe hunting during the day is part of that. I'm not a tree or bunny hugger by any definition, but I do believe man's continued expansion has had a very detrimental effect on all animals, especially the apex predators.

I'm very happy Moxie lived to tell the tale, and I hope something like this never happens again. Sadly, I'm pretty sure it will.
