Well now I'm committed...no turning back now.

For several years now I've daydreamed and talked about how I want to run a 5k. My plan is always that I'll start running and training and then sign up for one after I feel I can finish the race.
Well with the way I am that's just a recipe for me to run a few days, get busy, quit and say maybe next year.

      Not this time!!!

I just registered for the Honor Run 5k benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project on Saturday 9/13. My thought is that now I'm committed to a specific race instead of just the idea that I'd like to run one. This should give me the drive to get out and do what I have to do.

I'm seriously pumped about it. This will be my first race ever. I'm actually looking forward to putting the effort into training so that I can not only finish but do so with a good time.

I'm also excited about just getting back into shape. I've always been in fairly decent shape even tho I don't usually stick to exercise as well as I know I should but the past couple years I've been feeling less and less athletic and I've gained 20 lbs since getting married in 2012. The idea of feeling better, training and getting in better shape and hopefully even dropping some weight is awesome.

just being around all the other runners/walkers is motivating. You will do great. "Its hard to soar with the eagles if you work with the turkeys" is a favorite saying of mine. position yourself around eagles! have fun and make friends.

I am so excited for you! Is your dog going to run, too? You can do this! The hardest part for me is getting started. And Wounded Warriors is such a worthy and wonderful organization. Please, keep us posted!

Sounds like a great plan. I agree that committing to a specific event is the way to stick with a training program. I bet it will jump start a whole new trim and in-shape you that you'll want to keep going with.

Good luck and keep us up-to-date.

Signing up for the run before training is key. Also, tell everyone you know that you have signed up and are doing it.

I ran my first organized 5k in 2006. First half marathon in 2011. First marathon in 2013. Doing a half marathon this fall, and am considering a marathon in 2015. Watch out, it's addicting.

congrats on signing up for a very worthy 5K! You'll be amazed at how easy it is when you are done and you'll wonder why you waited so long, and then you will search out other races in your area and you'll be signing up for them also!
