    Seen A Cop?

It's sad to watch the lack of respect growing in this country; your neighbor, the school teacher, the American flag, and the law enforcement folks, most recent example in Ft. Worth, Texas.
So, when you see a cop that's not actively dealing with some psycho, or the 12 year old walking down the street with a gun (that mommy hasn't seen for three days), stop… shake their hand and just say thanks.

I agree 100%. The police in my town are cross trained for EMT, fireman and police, so they get extra thanks from me whenever I can. I make it a point to bake them some brownies and cookies when I can. Each and everyone is so nice. They are just regular(special) people doing their jobs that we want them to do.

Agree, 100%. We bought a Deputy Sheriff's coffee the other and told him how appreciative we were of his service to us. God bless all who serve and protect.

    Aye Mates,
Thank you all on this very deeply appreciated post. As a now retired member of the law enforcement community, I fear more than ever for the safety of me Brother and Sister law enforcement officers. Tough and dangerous times and a sad commentary on our culture at large.

An Ohio State Patrol officer was struck and killed by a driver under the influence of drugs, while doing a traffic stop on another vehicle a few days ago. Traffic on the highway was backed up for quite some time while the accident was investigated and then cleared. This is what one person posted to their facebook account that morning: “Next time somebody decides to run a cop over I hope they wait till I get to work like traffic isn’t bad enough". In response, the administrators of a pro-police page pasted their reply.

“I appreciate you using your first amendment right, but now it’s my turn to do the same.
“Perhaps you didn’t know. Perhaps you didn’t recognize the coroner’s vehicle. Perhaps you didn’t see the dozens of blue and red flashing lights. Perhaps you didn’t see the grieving Troopers who lost a brother in blue. Perhaps your mother never taught you to show respect towards another human being.
“You couldn’t know, of course, that the man who was killed today, died at HERO at the young age of 48. You couldn’t know that he leaves behind a Wife and three children. You couldn’t know anything about the person whose blood was splattered on the highway. But you still could have had the decency to show some respect. Because unlike you, Trooper Velez would’ve stopped and said a prayer for you and your family, and if needed, he would not hesitate helping you. Unlike you, Trooper Velez doesn’t get to go home to his family tonight. You could have recognized that someone else’s pain was greater than your need to get to get somewhere on time.
“Since you were so angry that this incident resolving in a Hero’s death made you a few minutes late, I have a few suggestions. The next time this happens, try not to think of the fact that you missed your exit; think instead about what that persons family is going through. Try not to think of being late for work; think about the people who will never again get to see their loved one come through the door after work. Try to consider that maybe you could inconvenience yourself for one moment to allow officers to do their job and investigate this incident, to clean up the area where a mans life was just taken too soon, to show them that you see them and you recognize their loss. While you’re stuck showing just how selfish you are, Trooper Velez showed true selflessness and paid the ultimate sacrifice for it. He died while trying to make the roadways safer for you and your loved ones.

“Tonight, we will pray for Trooper Velez’s family, and we will also pray that you never find yourself in this kind of situation, something that no human being should have to go through. Rest assured, even after seeing your words, I will still never hesitate to lay my life down for you, if that time were to ever come.
“R.I.P. Trooper Kenneth Velez, we thank you for your dedicated service. We promise to NEVER forget you!

Sorry for the length of my reply. To all the safety forces and their families who give so much, thank you for all you do.

Somewhat related. On our two trips to Las Vegas I witnessed people walking up to members of the military in dress and shaking their hands and buying them random drinks. The first time I saw a person shake their hand it surprised me but then I saw it occur alot. I am sure those people appreciated the gesture. I know they appreciated the free beers.
    Thanks Everyone!!

Sorry? I thank you for posting it. I also saw this tragedy on the news, there just seems to be so many now-a-days you don't know which one to reference.

I think it's related and think it's great, so many put their life on the line so we can sit here and debate dog food, etc..

    Interesting. Thank you for posting.

Today while getting an oil change at the dealer I was sitting and talking to a guy I didn't know when he started it on the police critiques. Then we talked football. Then he asked how I was spending my Saturday and I said that before coaching my kid's football game I had planned on attending a "back the blue" rally as I am a law enforcement officer.

    Awkward.

Agreed, we all should appreciate what these men and women do on a daily basis to keep us safe. I've never met a law enforcement officer that I didn't like (even when getting a ticket). I know that law and broke it, they are just doing their job, just like we do every day. I also have great respect for members of our military. Putting their lives in the line here and abroad. Like a previous post stated "so we can debate dog food". We are blessed to have these folks out there making our lives care free.
