Town of Hempstead, Shelter in Wantaugh NY

Hi, we went to this animal shelter on the weekend. There are some great labs in there that desperately need a home.

I am going back on Saturday to see if I can take one home.

But I email the Long Island Rescue group, they went there
today and this is the email they sent back to me.

I took a "walk through" at Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh earlier.

I Found:

One pitbull who had some blood on his snout, looks as if he was bitten.

One mixed pup who was discharging greenish mucus from one of his nostrils.

Maybe someone in Long Island can go and get one, the animals
are free until January.
One little poodle with extremely runny eyes, shaking in the cage.

One little mixed pup who was shivering.

I also Found the following LABS in there:

Cage#
121 Black Lab Male
124 Black Lab Male (Large lab) (He looks like TAR)
132 Black Lab Male (looked very lethargic)
154 Black Lab Male (would not look up, lethargic)

There are also about 6 or 7 lab mixes in there. One did look like a purebred chocolate. He's in cage number 94.

There were not bloody, but the two labs in cages 132 and 154 did not look well.

I tried to check their faces up close.

I asked the shelter about the little 4 week old lab mix puppy, and someone may be adopting him. They left their name and address. >>

I went to the town of brookhaven

Yes I just moved here and I went to the town of Brookhaven to see if I could find a lab. I talked to the people there and they let me adopt a puppy not even 6 weeks old "lab mix"....well they called it a "lab mix" because it was blk. Got the dog home and after 1 month the puppy started going after my daughters. And not play bitting lunging at my children. Come to find out the dog was not lab she was pitbull. It broke my heart . I HATE these owners out there who just get rid of there dogs like there are yesterdays garbage. It breaks my heart. even today I still cry every time i drive by the shelter. The women when I brought back the dog gave me a attude because the puppy bite mt two year old....Please be very careful with shelters. I am not saying dont adopt from them... but just know what you are getting.

My local Animal Control does not medically treat the animals they bring in. They simply don't have the funding AND if it ends up being someone's pet, they most likely would not be refunded for the care given. I know the people there REALLY do care, their hands are simply tied.
