Two Dog Tether

Hi all,

Anyone use one of those tethers for two dogs on one leash?

I have one ten year old and one 7 month old. Was thinking about trying one. please share experience.

Tried two of these with my guys...a bungee type and a regular.

Both of them ended up under Danny's tail way too often...and Dan comes to a dead stop if there's something under his tail. I know it's because of the way they tend to wend their ways around each other...especially when we stop...but those leashes got donated.

Even if normal walking works with these, if one of the dogs gets excited (like the 7 month old), you have basically no control over the dogs...at least no direct control of the energetic one. If your dogs are perfectly trained and never deviate, this might be a good thing. Mine are trained well but not to the point where I'd use one even if we didn't have the Danny/tail thing going on. If you're going somewhere where you won't meet other dogs, perhaps you won't have an issue.

We use one all the time, but my guys are well trained and know how to behave on a leash. With your dogs, the thing to watch out for is the 7 month old getting excited and yanking the 10 year old all over creation. In the past, when we’ve walked a younger dog with an older dog on a coupler, the younger dog has worn a prong to even the scales a bit.

f your dogs are perfectly trained and never deviate, bahaha that is not a good description of our boys . they are sweet, kinda trained, kinda free spirit. perfect in my eyes, but not in all eyes . I think you said all i needed to hear. two dogs = two leashes. many thanks

I just got one for Christmas for our 2. Chase is 10 and Lark is 4. I don't know how energetic your 10 year old is. Chase tends to mosey but Lark likes to walk faster so Lark ends up dragging Chase along on the walks. It seems to wear both of them out. I thought that would be a good solution rather than being yanked around in the middle of them myself but now I'm not sure. I don't use it every time I walk them because it's probably more enjoyable for the older one to walk if he's not being pulled along by the younger one. If they were closer in age or energy levels it might work better.

This is the one I got, which I actually like because of the handles on each side that would allow you to hold on to them closer up if necessary.

I may try it after the yourger guys is consistently calm. he still spazzes out sometimes and i dont want the older guy to take the hit when that happens.

I used this with my Australian Cattle Dogs and it really only works if they walk nicely without pulling at all and/or stopping to smell everything out of synch. My two were not concerned about anything except for looking forward, and moving. No stopping, etc. My lab would never work with using this, as she loves to smell the roses. Even with them walking nicely, they began to walk almost sideways as they were used to the resistance. Maybe if you alternated sides this wouldn't be an issue.
