Here is how it went today
Let me know .. how I can correct myself..
    Or any other tips
    Have a 30 ft lead..
Regular buckle collar (since Moses will be going in the water)
    Some chicken jerky treats.
I have the 30 ft lead and approx. 50 ft from the water ..practicing sit/ heel/stay/down. (only using 5 ft of the 30 ft lead)
As we get closer to the water..20 ft ,,he is pulling like the devil..i have the lead wrapped around now hand..( say using only 4 ft of the lead(My hand is really hurting) since he is pulling so hard..but I make him sit and stay a few seconds (got a couple of battle wounds on this..
When we are 5 ft near to the water lead it only 2 to 3 ft (wow my hands are hurting) Moses is pulling like hell.
Get Moses to sit and stay for a second at the Most
Then I can't release it quick enough till he jumps in the water..( so another inquiry on my part)
I am over 200 lbs ,,when we were 5 feet away from the water I thought he would take me in a couple of times. This dog is STRONG..by far the most athletic dog I ever had.
No problem with lead getting tangled in the water. But Major tangles when he comes out.

Realize there are not answers to everything
But if you see anything I could be doing better let me know..

"Some chicken jerky treats" Uh oh.
Please google chicken jerky treats and see what's wrong with jerky treats / Chinese treats. The FDA can't find out why the chicken jerky treats are making dogs sick.
    Still.

Chicken jerky treats that say "made in USA" are likely still using made in China ingredients, like chicken. Did you know chicken for dog treats likely is processed in China, unless they specifically say all ingredients are sourced here.

All our threads and info about chicken jerky treats were lost in the board crash. They are bad for your pet and can cause kidney and liver issues.

I personally wouldn't use a long lead. But that's me and my crazy, energetic lunatic. The longer the lead, the less control I have. I have a double thickness basic 6 ft non-leather leash. I feel I have better control if I have her closer to me.
Have you done any obedience classes with him? You may have posted that and I missed it.

    Hello,
Moses gets homemade chicken jerky ..(I cut slightly frozen chicken in small strips and then bake @ a low temp)
Yes Moses had training (Puppy, Beginner and Adult)
Only use ALL of the 30 ft lead for recall training
When Moses is around water he goes crazy,,and all training goes out the window .

Just think, Moses will be completely mature in about 2 years. Some breeds take longer to mature. And then could be the same strong will, "knows what he wants" type of boy. Just lots of exercise, more training, and lots of love. I'm sure it's nothing abnormal. Not aggressive just loves water. Enjoy, don't think of him as a problem. Just enjoy him and play with him. And in time, when he hits that maturity, he will be your BFF. And you will enjoy the time spent with Moses. Some take more work than others. But you can still get the right results. A lovely companion.

I know you went through training with Moses, but maybe looking into other ways people train for recall?

    Found this:
Leerburg | Training the Recall with Michael Ellis DVD

Total Recall | Training | Gundogs & Sporting Dogs | Categories | Country Books | Quiller Publishing Ltd

Why is training recall so difficult for dog owners? | Dog Star Daily

Lots out their regarding recall. You are not alone.

Someone else on the board (WhoopsaDaisy? I think) is signing up for Susan Garrett's Recallers program. I haven't done it but I've heard lots of good about her methods and classes. You follow along on-line, work on your own.
