Yuuuup. We have 10 acres including a 6 acre pasture with a pond that attracts all kinds of ducks and geese. Thor was never a poop eater until he discovered the delicious delicacy that is goose poop. Ugh. He doesn't go after poop when we're out hiking off leash, but as soon as he's back on OUR property he makes a beeline for the pond to check if the geese have been by to drop some tasty morsels.

Goose poop has always been Sophie's fave.

Good thing you got that out. My daughter's dog swallowed one and the vet got her to vomit it up, fortunately. He said they often cause obstructions. My daughter said the vet used some sort of a little tablet they put under her eyelid that made her throw up. That was a new one for me. Apomorphine - Inducing Vomiting in Dogs

Oh, yuck. The things dogs will eat.

Yesterday we were in a pasture training. The place where we air, all the dogs were chowing down on horse manure. They're dogs.

At some point, we need to just figure dogs will be dogs. Anything that will obstruct or puncture the GI tract... you gotta dig out of their mouths, for sure. But feces... I don't know that it will hurt them. If it did... I believe that the canine species would have died out.

I won't let her lick my face until the next day, though.

It can present a risk of parasites (I'm sure other things as well), but also can induce diarrhoea at times (for Sophie, at least).

Been there, done that with previous dogs especially. Instead of a muzzle, my suggestion would be to work on leave it, drop it and your recall to keep her close and see if you can find a place that seems to have less really gross stuff around. Reward heavily for the smallest leave it or drop it or recall. Like five pieces of her favorite treat, fed to her one at a time. And always do it. I keep treats in my car for impromptu hikes or field romps. Also, accept that sometimes dogs will be dogs and eat really gross stuff. The vast majority of these things won't kill a dog or hurt them at all, and for a poop eater, I'd recommend something like year around Heartguard and once a year fecal exams. If you're keeping her close, you'll be able to spot when she gets something she shouldn't, and take action or know what to watch for.

When we go to the beach, I give Sam an anti-diarrheal pill when we arrive, during our romp and when he gets back into the car. I know he'll drink some water and eat random stuff if he can and in the past he's gotten firehose butt like you would not believe (including once in my friend's brand new car!). Our routine, plus not going to the beach if it's over about 65 degrees and being a little more on top of what he's doing plus leashing him if he gets to a point where he is tired and wandering around snacking versus running and playing, has cleared that up completely.

Sam once barfed up three used (assumption) condoms and a prior dog ate part of a disposable diaper once. So gross!
