These two are driving me nuts!

For the past two weeks, we don't get a minutes peace. If it's not bitey face, one or the other is stealing something or generally being a jerk. Brooks will be a year old on May 6, and I expect some teenage issues, but Sophie has been just as bad. She stole a whole uncooked pizza off the counter last week, something she has never done.

He's started demand barking in the past week. It just seems like neither dog will just settle and sleep, which is very unusual for Sophie, and Brooks started self settling a couple months back, now he's ready to go all the time. The just never stop.

Oh the joys of having Labradors!!!!

Yea, we've noticed a slight dip in Mochas manners over the last few months. Latte is starting to show us glimpses of the sweet puppy she's going to be then she'll grab a dirty pair of socks, a letter of the counter... 🙄

Oh boy, this is not what I should have read today! I am basking in the glow of Mayson's (5 months old) first training class. He is so much more chill than Murphy ever was. Within 20 minutes of the class starting, he was really just settling down when we weren't actively practicing something...and there were 6 other dogs in the room! YAY! Then we went to Lowe's yesterday to practice some training with distractions and he did so well. Need to remind myself that there are "teenage years" in the future!

Hey, Sophie's still just a young gal herself! At 10 and 4, Chase and Lark still get wild and crazy in the house sometimes and Lark occasionally gets a time out in the crate because she just won't settle down. I'm just happy to see Chasey still want to get in the game. And I guess occasional craziness is preferable to every minute craziness. We go to the beach in a few weeks and that always rejuvenates him so I'm expecting more to come.

The loss of an entire pizza, though. Now that would chafe!

We're similar to Mocha and Latte.

One minute the dogs are cuddling and sleeping, a half a second later they have crazy eyes, are zooming around the house, bouncing off the couch and walls, and grunting. I'll herd them outside only to see that Bear grabbed three socks and some underwear in his craziness and has deposited them in the middle of the yard for later while they both run laps around the yard at warp speed. 30 seconds later they're lounging on the deck enjoying the weather and sun. With our undergarments still in the middle of the yard.

Sunnie's somewhere around 14 and Dan just turned 8. They both favor a leg or two from time to time. Nothing stands in the way of having a good time.

Every day before morning walkies and sometimes in the afternoon, too, we have chase/tug-of-war/bitey face zoomies through the first floor of the house (they go in circles). Sunnie's chasing Dan, trying to pull his legs out from under him...then they wrestle or vie for possession of a stuffie. Sunnie's always been rough with Dan and they're not allowed to play outside where they can build up too much speed....someone always gets hurt because then Dan body slams his mama. He doesn't do that in the house.

It's not an all day thing but we definitely have to get out of their way.

Oh yeah, and Sunnie turned out to be an excitement barker. "Let's play, Dan!" "Hurry up and get ready for walkies (directed to me...usually in the stairwell where her voice really carries).") We didn't know she had a voice till about 3 years after we got her.

Self settling is really nice, if they keep it up. We knew Jet could when she jumped out on her first try in the canoe and learned how to control herself after we hauled her back in. We have so little faith in Oban he hasn't even been in the canoe. Maybe Brooks will re-learn it, or re-do it.

None of ours are particularly wild in the house. They have brief interludes of biteyface but nothing too wild. If they start getting wound up they usually take themselves out through the dog door to run it off. The puppies haven’t stolen anything in a few months, either. Hope I’m not jinxing myself, LOL.

It's as though he's a small child that gets over tired and rather than taking a nap, he turns into a jerk. I've been taking him to the high school across the road from us doing field work. We spent over a half hour doing retrieves in the 40-50 yard range, around 15 retrieves. He was panting pretty good, but was showing no sign of wanting to stop. When we got home DW and I took him and Sophie for a walk around the neighborhood, maybe 25 minutes. You'd think he'd just lay down and take a nap. Oh no, he wants to play bitey face with Sophie. I take them out in the back yard with me while I cut the grass. 30 minutes of off and on bitey face. Mostly on. We come in as it's getting to dark to cut grass. Nap time maybe?? Oh hell no, he just got brattier and brattier.

I took the crate out of the family room back in February as he didn't need it anymore. It may just come back in for some time outs!! I'll be so happy when he's out of this teenage phase!
