LOL, I always think when I say "basement" folks think I might have the dogs locked up somewhere bad. This is our basement....Attachment 6438

I laughed when I read the part about Linus jumping the fence! haha I am going to check out the Overgreeters Anonymous class. Thank you for that! Forest does act this way when we are out, such as at the dog park. I do want to train for it as I have somewhat frequent visitors and many are children.
JenC- Nice doggy pad! :)
I've decided to hire a local trainer to come in and assess the situation and help us out. Forest has zero self control when meeting other people and dogs at the dog park or on our twice daily walks. Fortunately so far everyone is understanding lol.
That sounds like a wise course of action. Good luck with getting him under control (his young age should act in your favor).
Thanks! She is coming Thursday evening so I will update after that.
Here is an update! The trainer came last night and was very helpful. She said if I know people are coming to crate him and only let him out when he has settled down and have the visitor offer treats when he comes out of the crate. She also told me that when unexpected visitors come to the door, have them turn their backs to him and treat him when he stops jumping. ( I keep treats on a high shelf by the door) She also suggested that as soon as a guest comes in the door to throw treats down the hallway. (We have a very long hallway). We also worked on his exiting doors behaviors, encountering people on walks and she talked to me about shaping which was a new concept to me. She is going to be sending me videos to watch on shaping different behaviors. She also has a closed FB group that she invited me to join. It is for people that have taken her classes or are going to. I joined and there is lots of helpful stuff on there! We will be taking her classes that start mid September.
She also commented on how he loves to train and what great focus he exhibits during training sessions. :) It was a very helpful experience and was worth every penny!
Here is a cool article I found on her FB page: I hope it is ok to post a link. If not admins let me know. It's called The Magic Hand Game. The Magic Hand Game For Focus And Concentration | Victoria Stilwell Positively
Good luck with your training...it sounds like he has the potential for being a star pupil. (ummm.....pup-il)
