If possible go check it out with out Jesse or go when it is not very busy. We have used parks in the past and have never had issues.

Never been to a dog park, always stuck close to home. Know most of the dogs in my area. Don't think I'll use the dog park close to me (my own personal reasons), but if I did, I would make sure I was in full control of my dog, if intact. And even neutered. It really is my responsibility, whether going to a dog park, taking visits to pet stores or dog friendly establishments, or just walking in my neighborhood. Most dog owners, unfortunately, don't understand the true responsibility needed when out and about with your dog and keeping him/her safe to enjoy that time. I'd pick an off time (like suggested already), and get to know those owners that feel like you. I see the importance of socialization for dogs with people as well as others. Labs seem to enjoy the play with both humans and other dogs. I think I'll either get some opinions of where to go from the breeder, as well as the trainers at puppy class. But most of all, I need to feel truly confident that I can control my pup.

Sorry for being long winded, but don't want you to feel discouraged to go back to the dog park. It's really can be a nice social tool, but I think picking and choosing when to use it and the dog owners that are there, isn't a bad thing. Makes things so much more enjoyable, and isn't that what dog parks are for?

I was never to a dog park..
But I plan to go with some friends in the next week or two..
If it works out it will be once a week
My opinion I think it would be good for Moses
Would NEVER let Moses off leash only if I trusted the other dogs..( think this is the Key to whether they are safe or not)
I am very protective when it come to my boy
But I do think dog parks will be good for my boy ..if I use it the right way

We've only had one problem at a dog park, when a Scottish terrier attacked Luna and the owner said the dog has attacked Labs before, and seems to hate them. I asked her why on earth she would continue to bring her self-admitted aggressive dog to the dog park and that if I ever saw her there again and her dog came near Luna, I would call animal control and the police.

Luna has had many positive interactions at the dog park. I've encountered many stupid humans as well. If anything makes you uncomfortable, leave. If you see someone get out of their car and they/their dog give you a weird vibe, leave before they even come in.

We LOVE our dog park! There are a lot of other hunting families that go there, and the dogs love playing and running together. However, this is the only dog park I will go to. We know the other dogs that go at the same time as us. Also, Bacon has excellent recall, so I have no worry about calling him mid play or run, and knowing that he will run right back to me!

Such a good question! I wouldn't worry about your dog being intact. That's your business. Responsible dog owners don't' bring females in heat out in public. That is the key word here "Responsible". There are so many people/dogs at dog parks you wouldn't choose to be around. BUT then there are those that you will like to hang out with. As others have said find the dog park and the time of day that has the mix that fits your needs. Also you have to watch out for your puppy and make sure he has a good experience. Sometimes dogs tend to gravitate to puppies. Don't let them gang up on him. You can step in and provide a safe space for your puppy. Bring a toy(s) you don't mind loosing. Sometimes it's "steal the new toy at the dog park" and a dog may walk off with your dog's favorite ball. Stay away from groups of people who are talking to each other and not watching their dogs. Some people dislike the dog walkers who have groups of dogs but many of them are very experienced and have nice packs of dogs. My dogs love our yard, they love to walk in our neighborhood and they also love to go to the dog park. I think it provides good variety.

if you havent already have him meet dogs in a controlled setting to see how he does before going to a dog park. dog parks should be for social dogs that are friendly and you need to know that about your dog before going there.

also, some neutered males are agressive towarda intact males. just be careful and aware at all times.

I took him to the dog park tonight. It was just him me and my friend and his puppy. Jesse did great. He was kind of nervous at first and stuck close to me but after a while he played on the obstacles and even tried to jump through one of the hoops. He wasn't feeling the teeter totter thing, but he thought the hoop was fun. I worked on his recall and he did great with that too. It's a nice dog park, well maintained, safe obstacles and a good fence. I wonder why no one was there. No one was there the last time I went either.
