My dog is one years old and is doing great with her training. However, she has a strong prey drive which wouldn’t be that bad, except when we go on walks and she sees something. Also, we have a pretty open backyard with a hill we don’t want her to go down the hill. She’s great in the yard unless she sees something and she’ll chase it down the hill. Is there any way to help reduce prey drive?

I've been wondering that with my own dog lately lol But for starters, I would fence the yard if it's not already.
Funny, those of us that actually work the breed as hunters or hunt test dogs love "prey drive". For the most part either they have strong prey drive or very little. Ye can usually control or take other measures to work around it. Tough to put it in those that don't exhibit the gift trait.

Why don't you want her to go down the hill?

Those of us in other dog sport venues love “prey drive” as well! The key is not to reduce their drive but to channel it into the behavior you want. In other words you need to make coming back to you when you call just as rewarding if not more than chasing small prey. Sass has tons of drive, but when I call her on a recall she comes at me the same speed she would go after a rabbit in the field, LOL - it’s actually a little scary to see coming at you. Depends on the dog the best way to achieve that - some are play motivated, some food, etc., but you want coming to you to be the absolute best thing in the world.
