    Soft dog crate

Any recommendations for a good soft dog crate? I am seeing an increasing need to have one for classes when the dogs need to be crated between turns on the dock or in the ring. Saw a few recommendations from Whole Dog Journal, but would love to hear from some real-world folks who have used them for labs.

I've been using a Noz2Noz for about 4 years and have been pretty happy with it. No frills, pretty durable, and it works.

Thanks! That is one of the ones I was looking at. The only complaint I read seemed minor and it was that you can’t secure the zippers. The reviewer said some dogs might be able to paw at the zipper and work it open. Any thoughts on that?

Oh and which size do you have? I feel like the 36 inch might be too small, but the 42 might be too big.

How much does Diggity weigh now? I have the 36 in but Molly is only 50 lbs and she has space in it.

I need to have him weighed again, but a few weeks ago he was 60 pounds. I bet he is closer to 65 now. Thinking he’ll end up between 70 and 75.

Henry is about 70 pounds at nearly 9 months old. I had him in a 36" wire crate this weekend and it was way too small for him now. He could stand up and turn around but he looked so scrunched up. He rides in a 36" crate in my car because a larger one won't fit, but it's a tight fit. The soft crate we use for Lark (also 70 lb) is 42". She often curls up at one end but she also likes to stretch out on her side or lie on her back and the larger crate is best for that. I think it's a Noz2Noz. I'd go with the larger crate. I also like a crate with both a front and a side door because the mesh side opening is larger for better ventilation.

I like my Noz2Noz crates - I have two 36" ones. As for the thing with the zipper, there is a little hook on the crate that can be used to keep the dog from unzipping the crate, although I'm pretty sure that wasn't the original purpose - I used to have to do that with Sass but she no longer tries to get out. The other crates which I see a lot at shows that are nice are Elitefield. They have many of the same features and are a tad cheaper. I'm waiting for them to go on sale as I'd like to get a 42" one that my young girls can share at shows where space is tight and it's hard to fit 2 crates in. They can fit together in a 36" but it's tight and I'd rather they be able to relax more.

I've never seen the Amazon Basics one in person. We do have an Amazon Basics wire crate in the family room and while it suits our needs for that, I do feel like while it superficially looks very similar to the Midwest one of the same size that we also have, it feels a little flimsy in comparison. I also have an Amazon Basics backpack that I use for work and same thing - lots of features and looks nice, but hasn't held up well, so I'd want to really look and see how well-made it is before actually buying one. I use my crates A LOT though - 2 days a week for training classes, and almost every weekend for shows or matches so that's a lot of folding up and down and stuffing in the car (which does more wear and tear than the dogs do), so I'd look for reviews that address that vs. ones who leave the crate up in one place all the time.
