I swear by Martingale!
We have the Gentle leader and it does keep Amber from pulling at squirrels, neighbors, etc. but she hates it and tries rolling in the grass or anything else she can try to get it off. By the time we get home she is so upset and agitated! My question is has anyone had luck with a Martingale collar? We have a "no pull" harness that helps some but not much. Just curious if there is anything safe that works for you. A friend got a Herm Sprenger training collar for his year old golden retriever. He says it's possible for the kids to walk the dog now.

I used martingales on both dogs, and they will not stop pulling, at least in my experience. I use martingales because it's almost impossible for the dog to back out of it. It will tighten enough around the neck that it won't pull over their head.
I do use Herm-Springer prong collars and they will stop pulling if fitted correctly and used properly. The vast majoring of the people I do obedience training with also use prong collars.
We’ve had a lot of success with the Easy Walk harness.

I trained mine to not pull.
As Barry says, the Martingale "won't" pull off....and it won't tighten more than the actual circumference of the neck so it's not as potentially injurious as, say, a choke collar.
I like the ones with the chain loop (as opposed to fabric) because they also give you an audible association with the command to not pull. Not to mention that they revert to loose more easily than the fabric ones.
I am using the Gentle Leader too and find that it really helps the pulling. In tandem, I am working on him not pulling using methods like turning around and walking the other direction until he slows down and then I turn back in the original direction. It helps, but he is pretty headstrong and excited to pull. He is getting better, but it is a super slow process.
Also, in our case, I do remove the Gentle Leader when we are on our way back from walks. He pulls a LOT more when we are heading out.
My trainer told me not to let them flop on the ground and paw at it to get it off. She said if they do that, don’t say anything to them, but gently move them along on the walk so they start walking again and stop pawing at their face. Once you let them flop on the ground, they want to do that more. With Diggity, once I get him going again, he forgets he has it on.
In time, I am planning to not have to use the Gentle Leader at all. That is my goal, but it is taking a lot of patience with Diggity.

I also meant to say I am using a Martingale collar. I really like them. As Barry said, they are loose, but tighten to a certain point when the dog pulls. So, the dog can’t flip it’s head and wiggle out of the collar. I feel much more secure using it.
This company makes awesome Martingale collars. You can custom design them and they are very good quality. I like having a Martingale with a buckle instead of one that you have to loosen and tighten each time you put it on.
