It's been a very long time since we flew with our first Lab, Uno, from California to New Jersey. At the time, we flew US Air (told you it was a long time ago!), and used a Vari Kennel. We also took the red eye so he woudln't have to sit out in the heat, etc.

On piece of advice we got was to make his kennel more personal, so he wouldn't be seen as just a box. We made this one (I can't believe I still have it after all this time!) and taped it to the top of his kennel.

The airline staff who saw it LOVED it. And if he got a few extra kind words while he was on his adventure, even better.

    The link below is useful.

Was just checking out the travel thing myself again as I wanted to know the temp restrictions. May need to fly next December with my dog and it is cold here so needed to know the cold weather rule. I looked at the rates and it looks like I got charged the max size, but I think that was not because my crate was that big, it was because my crate and dog weighed more than 51lbs .... which all labs do if you ado the crate weight on.
