    Pheasant retrieving dilemma

I am an experienced dog trainer(not a professional). While hunting pheasants in SD and training for hunting pheasants my hunting partner's dog constantly takes the bird or bumper away from from my dog while she is bringing it to me. The only way my dog gets to complete the retrieve is when the other dog is hunting out of the area of the fall and does not see my dog retrieving. How can we stop his dog from doing this? We need both dogs looking in heavy cover to aide in recovery of the downed bird. I have lots of experience with the e collar. I want my dog to bring me the birds or bumpers she finds. The hunt, recovery, and retrieve are the reasons I hunt.

In my limited experience training dogs what we have found to work best is the command "no bird". We have done training with Bacon with leave it, which we then transitioned to No bird. This is an extremely useful command when hunting as a team, or even as an individual dog. If for some reason there is a need for the dog to not be grabbing or looking for a bird. Have you trained the dog on "Leave it"? if not, try starting with that. Also, you could try posting this in the Hunting section. There are several experienced trainers and hunters on that section of the forum. If you can get enough posts, I would try PMing Irishwistler or EvanG. They are both extremely experienced hunting trainers.

My no bird command is used on hens or roosters I don,t want Lacy to go after. I simply use the sit whistle .
We don't use leave it, we use drop it. Have not tried the remote drop. Hmmmm. There are many situations in which both dogs are in the area of the fall. They will both honor but in the heat of the flush and shot sometimes there is no time. The remote drop is worth a try thanks
