Remember, those 5 minute sessions are only 'formal' training. You are actually 'training' her all the time!

I believe just having the pup out whenever I am home, and sharing day to day activities is also training. The more time I spend just having the pup with me, the more it learns about what expected behavior is. They are exposed to the routine day after day and learn to know what is expected of them. Except for the bathroom. I still can't figure that one out. One door, I go in the door, a while later I come out the same door. She has been in there, there is only ONE door! Why is there a NEED to follow me and stay right in the door watching me? I can go in any other room, no problems, he will be back.

Example: When I go into the kitchen, I announce this is the kitchen, I am going into the kitchen, dogs are not allowed in the kitchen. It is not a formal training session but she learns not to go into the kitchen. I am also a believer in learning through the school of hard knocks. I bring an item from the stove to the table and label it as "hot". She is going to touch it with her nose at some point and let up a YIP. I will reinforce the word, 'That is HOT.' Next item I label as HOT is going to get a lot more respect.

I know it's not a trick but it's something I've wanted to work on properly for a while now. Now, we are tackling the "mat" command. Previously, Bobby has shown his enthusiasm for the mat by treating it as a toy. After my attempts at telling him to leave it alone, I lost the battle but won the war when I let him have shake it and carry it yesterday. The novelty wore off and he happily complied with training.

What are you all doing now?

Peekaboo was very successful and walking between the legs took a few tries to get our walking in sync.

We're now working on a circle of eight weave through the legs and surprisingly she immediately followed what I wanted. Started with a left side heel then through the legs around the right leg and back through the legs, finishing with a left side heel.

To get him to cooperate with the scales at the vet, I have begun teaching him "table" with a platform made of bricks. He's getting the hang of it and I've got to find another platform to practise on soon. Don't think we'll master it in time for his next vet visit though.
