A few steps into the heal, praise, and release. The whole thing happens within a few seconds. No one is in trouble, no big deal. Then try again. When it's done correctly have a party. It doesn't take much for the dog to get it and there is no correction or body blocking, just a do-over until the dog understands what you want and/or gets their head in the game. Timing is important.
Yes, when Chloe anticipates (which is rarer than it used to be and usually caused by her listening to closely to the trainer calling the pattern), I just say to her "Excuse me, where are you going? Can you SIT?" which is enough of a correction for her. She sits, I praise her and we continue on. No need for anything physical, but in her case it's because she understands what she should be doing and just messed up. Nobody's perfect, LOL. If she truly didn't understand that she is supposed to sit in heel position until I give her the cue to heel, then I might handle it differently, probably by reminding her "wait" as soon as her butt hits the floor.
