Leash training. Likes to lean on me.

My first post so bare with me. My 10 month lab walks on my left side. She is constantly leaning/rubbing against my leg. She seams to be doing this to tell where I am because she is not looking at me. I turn her to the right very often but unable to turn left because of this. Any Ideas? Thanks

How did you train on HEEL? Could be this is an over-reaction to pressure.

You should be turning left so she learns NOT to lean on you.

She is so big it is hard to turn left because she is in my way, lol hope I make sense.

When she stops and sits in the wrong position don't say anything or do anything, just lure her to the correct position with a treat, tell her good girl, then give her the treat. That is an easy one to correct. Don't stop fast. Even people at the top levels of competitive obedience give their dogs notice by slowing down for a step or a step-and-a-half before coming to a complete halt. It'll take time, but she'll figure it out.

As far as the leaning, I'd first like to know why you think she is leaning? How have you been training her to heel until this point?

Ok thanks I never thought about stopping to fast because I very much do. I will work on that.
She used to heel great a n month or so ago. She just started this leaning recently. It is like when she looks away from me...she walks almost in front of me rubbing my leg. When she does this i turn to the right to get her attention but within a few minutes here we go again?

So, how are you training her to heel? What is your method?

I started her very young to sit on command I work her by just walking with a short leash. If she starts to walk in front of me I give a small tug or turn to my right. She does not ever pull on the leash except when I stop "suddenly". When I stop she sits where ever she is at and sometimes turns and faces me.
I know I have more to learn than she does, lol

I think my question has been answered :
"When she stops and sits in the wrong position don't say anything or do anything, just lure her to the correct position with a treat, tell her good girl, then give her the treat. Thank you very much and will get back in a few days with progress reports. Thanks again

she might just like you a lot. my dogs lean on me when they want attention. try walking leading with a treat where you you want her to be, also, if she leans on the short leash give a correction tug away from you if she stays there a few steps reward her, keep walking. If you trained her a "no" command, give her the no, give her the tug out with leash, treat, then go for a few steps. be patient, she will get it. my dogs usually walk a little away. I have seen really expert trainers who start out having the dog right on the thigh and when the dog is walking on the correct position. they also use positioning commands with correction. get in, get back get out, get up(for forward. with my dogs, if they are a little wide, I use "tight" and lead them in. then treat. good luck. love the labs.
