Or, what about building a safe and secure run outside and leaving her outside? i did see that you don't like to leave her out unattended. Would she bark and annoy the neighbours?

Or, take her out on leash till you figure out how to overcome this. ??

the yard is secure and she has never really tried to get out. She is quiet. She does chase up and down when dogs walk by but doesn't bark. I do let her have some outside alone time but I don't like it as I can't really see her from inside. And one day I forgot about her (I didn't leave or anything but eek!)

I would say 80% of the time she runs in ahead of me. which is why I will use the long line method until our recall is under-way. the recall thing will take time, need a plan until we're there

I think about half the time she does this the dishwasher was on before we went out (but stopped or quiet by the time I bring her in) and she is afraid of the dishwasher.

I can see the dishwasher being a problem. It doesn't matter how long it's been since the laundry finished, that day Lexie will hide when I want to put the cats downstairs for the night. Good luck.

the leash thing worked great, I didn't even have to pull or coax she just followed. I left her out on her own for over an hour (after having been at dock diving for manyyyy hours) but then needed her indoors.

She is improving on the dishwasher, she isn't shaking and tail tucked. But she will remain downstairs and avoid it. This fear came out of no where, not sure if something happened (in conjunction to the dishwasher) or what. She gets jumpy even if I just open it to put things away.
