8 week old sleeping only 1.5 hours at night before potty

Were crate training my 8 week old lab pup, and he seems to cry to go outside to the yard every 1-2 hours at night (rarely two hours). He almost always pees when he does, its only one time been to play (which I quickly brought him back in). The breeder said he was going 3 hours no problem without soiling the newspaper.

Is he doing this just to give him the treat we give him when he pees outside? Or is this just all his bladder can hold? Should we ignore him and just bring him out at the three hour mark interval?

I am NOT an expert - but Barley was 8 weeks old a bit over a year ago - and I took him out whenever he needed to go. If he is peeing, then I would take him since you just got him. Watch and see if it improves. Then lengthen the time. I did not sleep much those first few weeks!

how much water is he drinking in the evening, and is he giving you full pee's or half pee's before bed?

I would be tempted to make him wait 3 hours.

Can he hold it longer during other parts of the day?

I have to agree, those first few weeks were tough! Every puppy is different, but it sounds like yours really does need to go, so I would keep taking him out as long as he's going to the bathroom when you take him out. It took a few weeks before we were all sleeping through the night.

I'm not sure when you last feed him, but if it's a big issue I would suggest not feeding him after 6 and take his water up around 7 as well, earlier even depending on your schedule. If he seems really hungry or really thirsty give him a snack (a treat or a little yogurt), and a small amount of water. This will help get everything out of his system before he goes down for the night.

I never treated when potty training. I figure, you need to pee? I'll take you out so you can. Go ahead, you may now pee, that's your reward. Good puppy, such good boy. Good boy, doesn't that feel better? Good boy. Good Hurry Up.

Hemi was 6-7 hours sleep easy at 8 week. You can adjust time as needed.

I went to bed about 11:30. So final potty break there. 9:00 Water dish came up. So no more drinking. 1 treat before bed. Alarm was set for 6:15. Then it was right out before I even went.

Now he would wake up a couple times in the night, he still does and he is 4. Most dogs do. It is teaching him he doesn't need to go out. He was basically lonely. I slept with the crate by the bed so I could reach down stick a finger through the crate and he would snuggle up against it and go back to sleep. I never got up and got treats. Cause treats are rewards. So you are rewarding him for waking you up. Week 2 he only disturbed me if he couldn't tell I was in bed. Like I was rolled over or something. He would jump up cry, I would roll over, stick a finger through the kennel and he would go right back to sleep. Week 3 he was sleeping all night no issue. Then I began moving the crate away from the bed. About an inch a night.

He has only woke me up 4 times to go out at night since and those were diarrhea nights. He had to go. Now he does wake me up on occasion, not to go out but because he gets up, shakes, scratches an itch, spins around on his bed making it more comfy, Jumps in bed with me, jumps out of bed with me. So dogs do get up several times a night. He may just be doing that and well you are giving him treats for it.

On weekends I follows the same schedule using the alarm. I would then after going out, I would feed him and get a snack and then we went back to bed for a few more hours. Still do this to this day but usually cause I wake up and need to go to the bathroom myself sometime early.

No treats for peeing/pooing. Sounds to me like the puppy is training you! Just like a baby, getting them on a schedule is very important. Sophie was sleeping through the night by 12 weeks, Bruce was 15 weeks, but still had the occasional need to go in the middle of the night.
