Barking at my work ( need a quick fix)

My dog Hope has been coming to work with me for 5 months. she has been with me only 6 months as a 6+1/2 year old rescue.
She barks when anyone comes in the office, couriers, neighbors even my assistant. It is not an aggressive bark. As she walks backwards some times.I have been working on the getting in between her & the person & saying "I got it", make her sit & when she stops I pet her & give her a treat. The worst is when the phone rings and she is barking at someone. Doesn't sound too professional.
I MUST have her stop or I can't bring her anymore. HELP.

I don't know that there is a quick fix. Even if you bark collared her she could still make noise. Sorry.

I work on the 16th Floor of the PECI Building in downtown Portland. If I brought Chopper to work with me for one day, it would cost the entire building thousands of dollars! Most dog owners do not bring their dogs to work with them...

I get what you are coming from. My DH brings Daisy and Lily to work with him and it's not good when they bark while he's on the phone. He usually just apologizes and tells the person on the phone it's a dog friendly office and they understand. Do you have a door to your office or is it a cube? If you have a door, maybe you could close it when you make phone calls.

I wonder if Hope would be happier staying home. I'm saying this because she seems to be stressed in the car and if she's barking at everybody at work this might be stressful for her as well.

Some days I think it would be great if I could bring Ram to work with me. I really believe that he would prefer to be home in his own surroundings.

Sue-Ram has a great point. If she is walking backwards while she is barking, she is fearful. I didn't catch that the first read. I'd stop bringing her. It's probably making it worse. Hire a dog-walker instead.

If you decide to continue to bring her to work, could you enlist the people you work with to help? Perhaps have them address Hope and pet her or give her a treat before she gets nervous. If you give her a treat after, you may be reinforcing that fear and barking are the right thing to do. Sometimes Mocha will bring me a pair of socks, which he knows he's not supposed to have. I say "drop" and he does. So, if I then say "bad dog", I know that I mean bad for getting the sock. But the last thing he did was drop, so does he think I mean the drop was bad.

Good luck. I wish I could bring Mocha to work. But I know he'd be a distraction for me because I'd rather play with him than work

^^What CraftHer suggests- or if not appropriate then train her at home ensuring a similar set up, eg.you sitting down at a table in a room with someone entering using first someone she is familiar with or even if this is not possible you could train with yourself...rewarding immediately she sits down.

As its your work and some people may not want to participate in this I'd do it at home first and then at work with a select number of willing participants.

I guess I am being facetious. I work with a pile of people and Chopper would be running around wanting to play with everyone resulting in thousands of dollars of lost wages. My apologies for treating your serious issue with inappropriate humor.
