These aren't at my library so I'll check Amazon.

Boomer's a young senior but he thinks he's a puppy so this is a particularly good recommendation, thanks!

Its by Leslie McDevitt, MLA, CDBC, CPDT - not entirely positive what those stand for but I'm looking at them on the front of the book

My breeder highly recommended "crate games" DVD by Susan Garret. I'm on my iPad so not positive how to hot link it but it's on Amazon with great reviews

I love dog training books. I have an entire section of my home library dedicated to them.

The best dog training books I have ever read are:

The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson
The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell
The Power of Positive Dog Training by Pat Miller

All three of them really changed the way I approached dog training and behavior. The Culture Clash is a book I give all of my friends when they get a new puppy, Donaldson writes well and she has some really easy to apply lessons.

Based on how pleased I am with the first "Control Unleashed" book I'd definitely try the puppy book.

The library system here seems rather thin on dog training books. I guess I'll have to build my own collection. They'll all go on my reading list. Thanks! My first two dogs were fine with what I learned early on but I think Boomer needs something more to maximize his potential. Or more to the point, I need to learn more to help him.

Do you mean you'd use it for your next puppy or you think it would work for my 74 lb senior-who-acts-like-a-puppy (although less so now that he's settling in)? Not that this thread's all about me but...

I'll get it for my next puppy. There are a couple of puppy programs through the internet I'll look at too. Susan Garrett's and Jane Killion has a puppy program out.

Or I'll go camp out at Annette's house.

My friend is looking at taking a trainer training program. The reading for the first module is as follows:
    Mandatory Reading Material:
Excel-erated Learning: Explaining in English How Dogs Learn and How Best to TeachThem, by Pamela j. Reid, Ph. D
The Culture Clash, by Jean Donaldson
Donʼt Shoot the Dog, by Karen Pryor

Recommended Reading Material:Calming Signals, by Turid Ruugas

Note: I haven't read those books other than culture clash. i actually just picked up don't shoot the dog from teh library today.
Dont shoot the dog is GREAT. I just finished Pryor's other book, "Reaching the Animal a mind" and that one was super informational and fun to read too.
