    Front clip sensation collar?

    Hi,

I bought one of these for Barley about a month ago because I was so tired of his pulling. The pulling has improved - but my mother was going to be taking care of him - and I could not have him pull her over. I LOVE it. He HATES it. I had it correctly sized on him - and once it is on - he is totally fine - walks really well - and seems to generally forget about it - yet - tries to hide each time I go to put it on him. He has been like that ever since a puppy with halters, actually - but I am sticking with this because it works.

I have tried giving him treats when I get the halter, etc. etc. I gave up on the gentle lead because he kept dragging his nose on the ground until it was bloody and I could not have that.

Any suggestions? Any experience with these collars?

    Thank you!!

I know of only one person who used this (or a similar one) and her dog still pulled. And her dog actually hurt his shoulder pulling against this type of harness. The vet told her to stop using it.

I have one for Maverick. I don't walk him in it because I don't like the pressure it puts behind his elbows. I do take him to class with it on, but remove it when we work. As for putting it on, Maverick actually loves it. I've never had a problem and he stands for it very well. I can't offer advice for putting his on or how to get him to like it.

Oh, he does still pull a little, but it's manageable at least.

Do you mean you are using a front clip harness? I have not heard of a collar with a front clip sensation, but maybe that is something new.

The only front clip harness I would use would be the Freedom Harness. The straps are designed in such a way to avoid injury to the shoulder area. It also has an option to clip on the back, with the same martingale design to apply pressure. And it comes with a leash that allows you to clip on both the front and back for maximum control. The Easy Walk Harness with the front clip is the one that can cause injury.

I actually just ordered one! It is called "sense-ation no pull harness". I've read some good reviews on it, but I didn't think about the elbow/shoulder injury aspect of it.
Spot pulls like crazy, esp. when he sees another person, cat, dog, squirrel, rock on the floor, fallen leaf, etc....
I always carry treats and reward him for walking with me (which he does but only on our walk towards home), while we are out and about is another story. The treats for walking with me does not work at all. Everything else he sees/smells over rules the treats (even cheese and hot dogs!).
He does very well in class and does very well when we practice in the yard as well...but once we are out in the real world, he forgets it all.
I'm hoping the sense-ation harness would help, because the way he pulls I feel like I"m going to sprain a shoulder or hurt my hip. I have fallen over a few times as well!

Try just wearing it around the house so as not to associate it with walks anymore? Thor can sometimes be a terrible puller when he's been cooped up, so I tried a gentle leader. He haaaaated it when I fit it to him. For the first week I would put it on and feed him cookies and take it off. I'd leave it on for longer times and give him things he loves - ear rubs, cookies, tennis ball, quick walk outside. He gets really excited when I put it on now.

Please pay really good attention to how your dog is walking with this harness, especially from behind! I used one twice and was shocked at how it threw Maxx's gait off. It has been sitting in a drawer ever since. In fact if you can cancel or return the one you ordered I would happily send you the one I bought as I will never use it again!

My hubbs brought home a ruffwear harness yesterday...fits similar to the sense-ation harness..I've requested to cancel the order I made. Spot wore it yesterday and he was like a different dog! No pulling at all! I actually enjoyed our walk!! I will def. pay attention to his walk though...I didn't pay attention to it much yesterday. Was too amazed that he didn't pull! Will keep an eye out and have the hubbs walk him while I size him up from behind.
    Thanks for the tip!!!
