We bought a ramp for our Jeep Grand Cherokee. Getting up is not a big deal but we were worried that jumping down would be harmful.

Of course I have older dogs, but have always used a ramp. A few minutes of training and they were pros. Got my from PetsMart, a telescoping ramp. Thing must be at least 10 years old now and still works perfectly. It has a handle on one side and I bungee it up to the handle above the back door for maximum dog room.

My dogs almost always ride in my Suburban. I have the driver's side center row bucket folded so it is a shorter step up, about 2 feet. Jumping up to the couch and bed is higher.

My pup is 7 months and won't jump into the back of my Outback (not a very high car!). I just get him to put his front paws up and I lift his bum up into the car. He is getting a bit heavy for me otherwise!
