Treats
Just noticed this section of the Chat Board and thought I'd share the treat recipe our labs have always loved. Basically, its an unsweetened whole-wheat peanut butter cookie (or can be made as a biscotti -- see below).
2 cups whole wheat flour 1 cup wheat germ 1 cup Peanut Butter 1 egg ¼ cup canola (vegetable) oil ½ cup water ½ tsp salt Mix into a firm dough, roll out to ½-inch thick and cut out in the size/shape you desire (we typically just slice the dough into ¾-inch squares). Bake in preheated 350º oven for 15 minutes. Can be stored in sealed container in refrigerator for several weeks. For longer term storage, I'll let them cool on the cookie sheet for about an hour, then stick them back in the 350º oven for another 5-8 minutes to remove additional moisture in them (making them a biscotti cookie). Sophie gets these in place of commercial treats such as Milk Bones. |

I made these yesterday for my pup and a friend's. They're good. Pup had to share with me.
A little bit of sweetener and they'd pass as human trail bar type peanut butter cookies. Honey. Yes, honey next time, just a bit as they taste a bit sweet from the PB anyway. Thanks for posting this.

It is 2 cups of water, 1 whole banana and 1-2 tablespoons of unsweetened or low fat peanut butter. You can also add 100% pure pumpkin. I use the only kind they sell at my grocery store, by Libby's. Excellent source of Vit A and fiber, and low in calories and fat. I also put some dallops of pumpkin on their dry food a couple nights per week, just a change from the green beans. Lizzie |
