      Need any insight

Hello, we are new to this site, but our 9 yr old yellow lab rescued at 5 from puppy mill, she has car anxiety, we've tried thunder shirt, pheromones sprays, rescue remedy, xanax (terrible opposite effect). Now considering Dramamine. She pants and trembles but doesn't vomit, salivate or pace.
Anyone have suggestions? We've tried to desensitize.

Do you crate her in the car or leave her loose? Sometimes a crate helps.

A friend of mine has a 3 year old Lab with the same issues. She's tried everything you have, and still hasn't come up with a solution. Hate to be a downer, but some dogs just never get over it.

Blindfold? I hate to even suggest it but sometimes it calms them down though I don't see how we can tell if they are really calm or just not showing terror. Horses can be lead out of burning buildings if they are blindfolded. It might be worth a try for a short drive and then maybe a crate covered over with a heavy cloth so she can't see out. But then can she breath? I don't like the idea of blindfolding for much of a drive.

Had one dog who was horrible in the car but it was because of motion sickness not for lack of wanting to go for a ride.

Suggest crating maybe even with a sheet over the crate. Try this in the driveway, car not moving at all. Slowly graduate to moving a little in the driveway. Unfortunately it may never happen maybe due to previous experiences being confined all the time. You could try playing games around and in the car with tons of treats and praise.

Hi, yes we have tried the crate too. But we have not covered the crate and may try that. I have tried jusT letting her sit in the car and she is completely calm, but as soon as the car moves she starts panting.

Hi, thanks for the response......did you try Dramamine for the motion sickness? Crating her has not made any difference although we have not tried covering hpthe crate.

We are heading to Florida next week and plan for 10 hour days driving. We have a sedative but prefer not to use if possible. I just discovered this forum and thought maybe I would hear something new. Blindfolding probably not doable for such a long trip, but maybe something to try later.

Yes, our groomer told me same, but I keep trying.
