Thank you! Yes! He's named after the river/brewery. None of our Texas friends get it (how do you pronounce it?), but all of our Oregon friends LOVE his name. Lol!

Thank you! We didn't know what to expect when we put the deposit down on his litter. Dad is a yellow-yellow, mama is black. The litter ended up being all reddish yellow! We're pleasantly surprised with his coloring (we would have loved a fox red if available, but he ended up being a little reddish anyway). Our little strawberry blond (same color as my hair! )

I was going to ask if the Brewery had any inspiration too. Lots of folks around here with beer names for their dogs. One of thor's best buddies is a rottweiler/lab mix named Porter. One of our neighbors is a brewer and has dogs and animals named after hop varieties.

Porter was a second choice name for us. Lol. (Black Butte Porter is Josh's favorite beer.) We had our deposit down for a yellow male but with mama and dad being yellow and black, we didn't know what we'd get in the litter. If we ended up with a black, Porter would have been the pick. Haha.

Deschutes ended up being a perfect name. We wanted to tie in the name with mama and dad's names. Mama is Midnight Avalanche "Ava" and dad was Whisky River "Whisky." We knew we wanted to stick with an alcohol theme but also try to tie in something naturey. Deschutes River/Deschutes Brewery fit the bill.

Yesterday there was a beer truck making a delivery with Deschutes Brewery on the side. I'm not a craft beer drinker and am in Michigan, so I never heard of them (or the river) but thought the timing was perfect due to this thread.

I'm going to climb the Black Butte on the label on Sunday. I need to check out snow conditions. Rule of thumb for gardeners around here is that you can plant outside once the snow is gone off of black butte so I figured I'd check it out before making my gardening plans for the week. I think you just inspired me to pick up a Deschutes BB porter to drink on the summit!

That sounds wonderful. I get homesick for the northwest so much. Sigh. Making me miss it!
