    Hello!!

Hi everyone! I'm so glad to have found this forum. I am a work from home mom, and my husband works from home, too. We have 4 young kids (3 homeschooled) and we LOVE labradors. We have had several throughout the years. We just put our oldest down a couple weeks ago due to bladder cancer. She was 11, and we only had her for 6 months, but we miss her so much! We had to put our chocolate puppy down last summer because of a really awful liver shunt, so this was really hard on the kids.

On Sunday we rescued a 2 year old female chocolate lab. Her name is Daisy and she has a very sweet spirit. She is still very puppy-ish, and during the last couple of months she was left outside all day and night with her "sibling" golden retriever. Her owner only came by to feed and water them.

So, I'm dealing with an immature pup who appears to have separation anxiety. I'm here to learn how to help her cope so that we can get a second lab in the near future and hopefully not have to concentrate on a lot of issues. We want to have fun with our dogs and want to treat them to the happiest life possible.

Welcome! I'm so sorry for your losses. How wonderful for you to give a sweet girl a new home. There are lots of helpful people on this board that I'm sure will have some great advice for you. I've also had labs in the family growing up as a kid, but my husband and I just brought home our first puppy of our very own and we are learning a lot! This board can be very helpful.

Welcome to the board! Thank you for saving Daisy; labs need positive human contact to thrive.

You might also post in the Training area to get advice about the separation anxiety; usually people just stop by in this area to say hello and introduce themselves.

When you get your post count high enough, I hope you'll post some photos of your labs, past and present.

Hello and welcome. So sorry for the loss of your oldest girl. They come into our hearts and leave us too soon. Thanks for your rescue of Daisy and I hope she becomes an integral part of your family.

    Hello and Welcome!

Your post really hit home. We lost Potion, a black lab, at about the same age to bladder cancer. We were blessed enough to have had her in our lives for several years. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Not the best on advice for puppies as we home seniors. As suggested, do post in the Training or Fire Hydrant section about the separation anxiety.

    Looking forward to seeing pictures.

Welcome, check out the training area for some good hints on rescue pups and the time it takes them to settle in and the importance of a routine.
