I use zip ties or cable ties, whatever you know them as, to secure all the sides of the crates for the very reason you've described. I've read of dogs who got their heads through between 2 panels of the crate and then got stuck, couldn't move forward or backward, and got injured (or worse). I'd strongly recommend getting something to secure the panels where your little smartie pants is sticking her head/body through. Here's a little photo of one of the zip ties on Lark's crate, even though she has never gotten the idea into her head that she should try to escape. You can cut the ends of the ties off so it doesn't look too bristly and give her something else to try to chew on.

Go on Amazon, there are crates that are almost like metal boxes. I have a friend at work who has a pitty who is an escape artist and he cant get out of one of these types of crates.

More importantly, what are you doing about the fear and anxiety? Are you working with a rescue? a shelter? Generally when you rescue there are resources available

Right now, we are working on making her comfortable with us so she isn’t afraid of us and she’s trusts us. So far, that’s going well. We were told dogs that are afraid of people are supposed to meet 100 people in 100 days. We’re trying to ease her into uncomfortable situations and we’re trying to make her feel more comfortable and safe.

quality over quantity always. promote positive even if it means having fewer.

socialisation to humans also doesn't mean she has to interact with them. sitting a bit away from a path and rewarding her greatly as people just walk by ignoring her goes a long way. stand as far back as needed. use the open bar technique where she gets lots of non stop tiny yummy treats as the person walks by until they are gone then it stops. Keep them short when seh does meet new people and then back away to see if she wants more or is done.

encourage her to say hi to friends but let her do so at her own pace. have them sit down and ignore. having them hold a treat may be too much, so you can reward yourself.

She enjoys going to the dog park and playing with other dogs, but she has been growling at people when they come too close, which is definitely something we don’t like, so we have been scolding her when she growls at people. She will sometimes take treats from other people, sometimes not.

Never ever punish a growl. your dog is scared and people are getting into her space and she is asking them to get out in a very doggy way. growls are simply a legitimate method of communication for a dog. Punishing growls removes that method without addressing the cause. Removing a growl can mean a dog skips the growl and moves up to snapping and biting.

IF you have to use the dog park stick closer to her and ask people to give her space and let her come to them IF she wants (and they can give her treats and let her go). you need to advocate for her.

these continued negative experiences will make it harder to work on desensitization in general as use keeps having unpleasant experiences. one negative can undo 10 or more positive experiences.

Dealing with a fearful dog is different than a normal well adjusted dog. Are you able to find a good experienced positive based trainer to help you?
