    New Member: Service Dog Candidate

    Greetings Everyone,

My name is Kathy and I am in the process of deciding on either a pup or adolescent (18 mos-2yrs) to Owner Train as my new Diabetic Alert Dog. I look forward to exploring/reading/learning/absorbing as much as I can on your site.

    Thank you!

Welcome and all the best of our MOJO for you. Get your post count up (I think 5) so when you get your pup we can sees the picture. The members here are very excited when we get puppy pictures-and stories.

Also, there is a vast, rich amount of resources of information on almost any dog topic you can think of here.

Good luck with your decision and let us know ASAP!!!

Welcome to the board. Do you have a service dog trainer helping you find a dog. If you choose to get a puppy you take the risk that it might not be right for the job. If you do get a puppy and its not the right fit what would you do?

JollyMolly, if I got a puppy it would be from a breeder who had a "first right of refusal" or a contract that stated they would take the puppy back. I will seek out rescues that will allow me a 30 day trail period as well as have a policy/contract to allow me to return the dog to them in the event it does not work out. I do not do this without considered thought for the well-being of the dog :-) and I appreciate that you bring it up so that anyone else considering the same will be mindful of their decisions.
