So glad to have found this forum. Moose is my first lab puppy, love him to pieces, but he sure is teaching me the challenges of lab puppies. My background...in December, I lost my very best friend Max, a 12 yr old golden retriever I raised from a pup. He swallowed a piece of garden mulch and died two days after the surgery. Moose came to me at 7 weeks of age (I know, I wanted to wait for 8 weeks, but the owners were ready for the pups to go). We also have a kitty and a 7 yr old Chihuahua at home. I know I can make this work; my Chihuahua lived for most of her life with my golden and it was good, we just need to get thru the crocopup stage so everyone can live in harmony. I am an oxygen patient, I am up to the challenge, and so proud to say that Moose is now 12 weeks old ...that's 5 weeks he's been here, and has only chewed on one oxygen tube. He learned real fast to never do that again. Looking forward to learning tricks and tips on having a happy, healthy home for all of us.

Welcome to the board! With 5 weeks under your belt already, it sounds as if you've got things under control so far...congratulations.
Looking forward to seeing pics of Moose and your Chi (I think you need 5 posts in order to share pictures).

Welcome to the board!! Can't wait to see pictures of Moose! Hopefully he doesn't find his way near an oxygen tube again. One things you will learn pretty quick about lab puppies (and adults), they love to have something in their mouth...and it doesn't matter what it is. Have fun with the new guy!

WElcome to the board. Your name here is similar to a town in Northern Ontario, Moosonee.

Welcome! Lab puppies can definitely be a challenge, but in the end, with lot's of training, love, and patience you will be rewarded with a great companion!

Welcome! Sounds like you're off to a good start with Moose. So sorry for your loss of Max. I'll bet it was an adjustment to have an active little puppy running around!

Thank you ALL! Love Moosone, I had no idea. And we are off and running. Poor Moose probably thinks his name is NO! but he's a quick learner, that one. And a pup is a huge adjustment, it's been 12 years since I had a puppy here. I have every single yummy or fun thing I could find for him laying around for that needing something in the mouth at all times...kongs, bully sticks, nerf balls (read where the rough exterior on tennis balls is hard on the teeth). Lol, it is exhausting, but fun and I know he's going to grow up great. I was so tight with my Golden, I couldn't bear to get another, so lab was the logical next breed. My son has a chocolate lab who is goofy and loveable. Moose pics will come as soon as I get the required posts done. Thinking he looks alot like SamsonsMom pic.
