Hello! I'm so excited to join this forum! When my kids were growing up, we had two labs - a yellow English lab, Bluto (lived to be 11.5), and Chipper, an American lab (lived to the ripe old age of 14.5!). Since that time, we've had an assortment of dogs - boxers and yapper dogs - mainly rescues. I currently have two yapper dogs - Maddie (maltese/westie mix, 9 yrs.?) and Kramer (chihuahua/yorkie/wire haired terrier mix, 3 yrs.?). I have also fostered for a local rescue for a few years, but I've decided to take a break from that.
The BIG news is that my husband and I (ok, mainly me, but hubby is onboard) have decided to get another lab puppy before we get too old to raise another one . We've selected a yellow male lab from a very good breeder in our area who does health testing and breeds for temperament and working ability (hunting trials, therapy and service dog work). All of their dogs are extremely well socialized and raised around adults, children, and farm animals. We tried to get a rescue, but it's hard to get one that isn't mixed with pitbull in our area - sorry, but not a fan - no offense intended. He was born a week ago yesterday, May 19th. We're SO excited!! He will be coming home mid July at 8 weeks.
Now to figure out a NAME! I'm so bad at that...

Welcome! We look forward to reading of your adventures and hope you'll get to share a few photos even before the new pup comes home!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have last pick male, so I might get the runt, which is a male. However, the breeder said he's quite resourceful, and he climbs over, under and around the bigger pups to get to mama's milk. He's already a porker, almost as round as he is long, at only a week old - lol!

Great family pic...welcome to the board!
We love pictures...you wouldn't have to twist any arms here to get us to watch him/them grow. Hint. Hint.

Welcome! Mama Maggie looks so sweet- a good sign for your porker pup’s temperament.

Welcome. we LOVE pics of lab puppies!! New puppies on the board are always welcomed and we also love to hear stories of any doggies. There is nothing wrong with being a little guy, he will love you and you him, in any size he turns out to be.

Thank you everyone! I don't think you'll have to worry about seeing more photos - lol. The breeder tends to update photoes weekly, I think. Of course, I'm only assuming we'll get the little guy because we have last pick male. We'll obviously be happy with whichever one we get! We don't get to decide until 6 weeks old, when everyone who put down a deposit is invited to meet the pups. The breeder is wisely very careful to keep unnecessary germs away from her babies until they've had some shots.
Until then, I'm spending money - new crate (he'll outgrow my yapper-sized crates soon), puppy food recommended by breeder, etc. Fortunately, I've found everything on sale so far. I'm quite the bargain shopper.
Naming the puppy is my weakest area. Names we're considering so far (by no means a final list - we've just started): Trapper (re: Trapper John from M*A*S*H), Tucker, Brodie, and Ozzie.
