      Hi from Ontario

I have been on the forum and have replied to a few posts but never introduced myself and my dogs.
I currently have 2 labs, Bauer my 4 year old yellow male and River my 15 week old black female
(I hope i attached images correctly)
Excited to share our adventures with you all, and if anyone knows of any hunt or field type trainers (or any other fun sports their lab likes) in southern Ontario (in and around the GTA) let me know! hoping River has the right drives to get me into the sport world a little

WElcome, have seen your posts. If you put a thread in our hunting section you might find some hunt trainers. There is a lady just east of Newmarket, forget her name.

Welcome! Bauer's features show up really well in his pic and he's certainly a handsome dog. (The dark lends an air of mystery to River but I detect some beauty there, for sure.)

Welcome. There is a lady on this board, Anna Scott who is Canadian and does field sports, so maybe she could help you. You should be able to send her a PM.

It is indeed troublesome to shoot a black dog. I find shooting in manual modes and RAW format tends to work best. This will give you much more flexibility to adjust the photo with editing software (I use Lightroom and Photoshop) to improve your results!

Hi Suzy Depending where you are in the GTA there are a number of clubs in the surrounding area. The Mountain Valley Retriever Club trains in the Christie Conservation area near Waterdown, the Labrador Owners Club, Mill Creek and Horseshoe clubs train around the Guelph and Puchlinch region, There is also the Golden Retriever Club of the GTA. I belong to the York Field Trial Retriever Club and they use my property to train which is north of Barrie. Right now training is hit and miss with the weather changing on a daily basis. I would suggest that you check out the club websites or facebook pages to gather information. The other thing to do is look on www.canadianhuntingdogs.com as many of the club hold training days throughout the Fall and Winter (weather allowing). You might want to go to one of these to check out what the sport is all about.
I work on indoor obedience during the winter as obedience is the foundation for the field sports. A trainer I used told me that obedience, obedience, obedience was the key to success in the field. A good resource to start you pup with at this time is Jackie Merten's DVD Sound Beginning. Another is Bill Hillman's Training a Retriever Puppy. Feel free to PM me if you need more information.
