Hello, hello! An intro and question..

Hello from Nash Vegas! My name is L and I am a (puppy)mama of a 2 years old boxer/lab mix. We are adopting our second puppy this weekend and we cannot wait to meet him. He is a German Shorthaired/Lab mix, but he looks more like a chocolate lab. My question is, is 30 pounds normal weight? The previous owner said that he is about 8 months old. We found him through craigslist and we have been texting back and forth since Friday. The picture on the ad was taken within a month or two.

I will post a picture of him from the ad so you can have an idea of what he looks like.

He's pretty cute! By 8 months of age, both my labs were pretty close to their adult weights. (FYI, my female weighed 61 pounds at 6 months, my male heavier) If he's a mix, it may be hard to predict his adult weight, but 30 pounds seems very light for either an 8 month old lab or GSP., but that's also assuming both parents were purebred.

why are they looking to rehome him?

The owner has an older dog and I guess the first dog doesn't like him very much. So, she decided to find a home for him. We are going to meet them at a dog park this weekend, let the puppies get to know each other and hopefully our Charlie will love him!

And I was thinking the same thing. He seems light for his age. The owner posted the pictures of craigslist a week ago.

Ooh he is very cute. He looks like a lab except for his size and his ears. At 8 months my female weighed about 60 lbs. I don't think that German shorthairs are that much smaller- but maybe someone else knows better.
His nails look way too long.
8 months is the teenager phase so be prepared!

Thanks, Daisy. He is still at his owner so once we take him home with us, we will take him to the groomer and get those nails trim. I wanted to ask her as to why does he weigh 30 lbs at 8 months but I don't want to offend her with my question.

Oh, and trust me, I've been through that stage with our Charlie. And boy, that tested my patience.

    welcome

GSP's are smaller, though he is small even on that scale (but not as off). Maybe he has another breed in there, who knows. he looks more GSP than lab in the pics but they don't show much profile. the tail is labby

I would just assess the dog's temperament and fit with your dog.

Is the other dog used to dog parks or do you know if this will be their first trip? Is YOUR dog used to dog parks (and that dog park?) Assessing the fit of two dogs at the dog park is not idea. It's nice that it's neutral ground but they could very well ignore each other and not really help you see if they are a fit. Plus, if one dog have never been to a park or THAT park they can be showing less than their best side due to stress of the situation.

    A real cutie!

I agree, a meet and greet should be on neutral ground but one without other dogs around.
