Found a lost lab puppy. Looking for support from other lab owners. :)

Hi, my name is Amber. Late last night on my way home from work I found a starving puppy wandering a busy road. I couldn't leave the little guy so I snatched him up in front of a car. I've only had him a few hours but I have been able to feed and water him enough he is happy and content and sleeping on my lap right now. The best I can tell he is going to be mostly all chocolate lab. He has such a sweet disposition, very calm and people friendly. He loves my dog Sadie (a rottie mix) and is curious about the cats. He even seems happy to visit my parents dogs through the fence line right now. I couldn't get him in the vet today but he will go Monday afternoon for a full check/shots/the works. He is doing well on potty training and seems really smart for his age. I don't think he is but around 6 to 8 weeks.

My background....I have a rottie mix named Sadie. I adopted her in 2007. She is the love of my life and the best dog I have ever had. I also had a weimaraner for a while. I am an experienced dog/pet owner and train my dogs. I take their health very seriously and think good food quality is key to a healthy long life. Plus training and obedience. Sadie girl goes just about everywhere with me. Sadie does like to be an only dog, but she is great with other dogs. If I cannot find this little guy's owner I am going to see if I can keep him and if I can't then I will find him the best home possible.

Anyhow, long story short... I hope to learn a lot from you guys for the puppy stages as I haven't had a puppy for many years. I adopted all my dogs at two or four years old. So, I have lots to learn.

The pictures aren't good ones yet...but I'll get better. What do you guys think of how old he is or how much lab does he look to you? His hair is a bit wiry. I'm not really one that must have a purebred dog, so don't think that's what I'm in this for. I just could not leave him the cold to get run over and want to give him the best start at a happy life.

    Welcome

He looks around 5-6 weeks old to me. Have you looked in his mouth at his teeth. I am really glad you saved him for all you know the whole litter was dumped.

Whatever he is he is a cutie. It might be easier to tell when he is a bit older. Looks like there might be some terrior in there

Wow, thanks Amber for picking him up. I can see why you are so taken with him, he's adorable. Make sure the vet checks for a microchip... Seems like he may be a dumped puppy
He looks labby to me but definitely with something else because of the fur. You should post more pictures--- he is adorable!!

What a cutie, thank you for saving him! He does look young, maybe 6 weeks, hopefully the vet can help you with that. As for how much Lab, that is so hard to tell. Whatever he is, he is precious.

Very cute. Thanks for rescuing. Lab and German Wirehaired Pointer? Or maybe all German Wirehaired Pointer .... googled what the puppies look like, and a little bit possible.

His coat looks non-labby, but otherwise very cute.

    Hello and welcome!

Thanks for saving him. He looks like he might be mixed with a wire-haired pointer to me. Lots of experienced dog owners and information on this site.

Thanks guys! He's doing well, playing and eating and sleeping a lot. My Sadie girl is trying to decide exactly how she feels about him, but she is being very motherly towards him.
